Help! I Broke My CD Changer

I have a 6-Disc CD Changer (460 watt MACH Audio system) in my car, and for a while it had been skipping or refusing to read discs sometimes, though if I played with it, it would work.

Well, I bought a CD lens cleaning disc and popped it in, not knowing it could damage the CD player. [B)]

Now, CDs just don't play at all.  "CD Error" is the message I get before it switches to the radio, and before I take the thing out and try to mess with it, I thought I'd ask here what I could do.  I can still insert and eject discs--it just won't read them.

Is there anything I can do?

I don't mind the radio, but I'd rather listen to my CDs!

just throw that Visteon crap away.  That same 6 disc changer is in a number of Fords and the failure rate on them is embarassingly high.  You are better off just getting an aftermarket unit.  

The MACH edition focus....man what a pile.

I agree Inteller, and that is good advice for most OEM CD players in cars.  I bought my 1993 Oldsmobile 98 with an in-dash original CD player (single disk) 15 years ago.  It failed once, and I had it repaired about 10 years ago.  Still works great today, god willing.  I think the manufacturers make these things to only last to the warranty expiration, and then expect the consumer to buy a new unit.  Most all electronic gizmos today are crap, and built as eventually disposable junk.

I like my car, and if it weren't for me trying to clean it by using a cleaning disc when I shouldn't have, the CD player would be fine, too.

oh and BTW, if you look closely it is not THE MACH 460 found in Mustangs....it is just A MACH audio system, which is really nothing more than the stnadard audiophile system found in many fords with a bigger amp and a slightly bigger sub.

you are probably better off going and buying an aftermarket CD player, best buy and circuit city run them for around 99 dollars for a basic one with free install most weeks.  Good luck.

I've never gotten an aftermarket stereo.  For one thing, I'm pretty low-tech.  The other is I've always feared them to be a good excuse to get a window broken out.
