It originated from Murphy - where do I complain?

I received a postcard from a fictional organization M.O.M.S. in Edmond. The postcard was attempted a sneak attack on Jim Roth concerning his refusal to heap hatred and malevolence on Gay people.

I immediately contacted the Roth campaign, told them I'd received the postcard, then congratulated them on their show of integrity for refusing to get involved in petty hatred & instead focus on the real problems.

I then tried to locate M.O.M.S. in Edmond.

No such organization. I kep searching and nothing turned up. Then I did a search on just the address, and discovered the address given for the fictional organization is actually the address for Oklahoma Conservative PAC ... who also just so happened to endorse Dana Murphy.

Is it illegal to pull this kind of campaign crap? That is, is it illegal to disguise the origination of a political hit job? If so, who do I turn her in to?

I knew she was a fruitcake and a crook. But apparently she's also a few bricks short of a load.

Yargh! Sorry about typos. Long day and all that ...

Good investigating Cecelia.  When you find out who to complain to let us know so that I can complain too.

Sounds like they are trying to stir up the base and get the religious nuts out on election day.

Well here is that group's website:

I wouldn't so much call it an organization as just a bunch of beer drinkers with access to a print shop.

cecelia

Is there a state or federal organization whic oversees deceptive campaign practices?

I'd contact the election board.  If you are unsure, contact the County offices of the OTHER party and ask them what the proper way to complain would be.  I'm sure they would be willing to help.

I believe it was a chicken-**** method of some fundamentalists backing Murphy to point out that Roth is gay (at least that's my understanding), instead of just coming out and saying:

"Don't vote for the gay guy for corporation commission."  or the alternative "Did you know Jim Roth is gay?"

I really can't see any reason to vote for either one of them, but picking the lesser or two evils, I think I'll vote for the one who doesn't believe it's okay to forge signatures and notarize their own name.  I'm not happy at all that Chesapeake got the clean coal plant scuttled and Roth's role in that, but I can think of many other ways Chesapeake as been a very good corporate citizen and put money back into the state economy.

Thanks, cannon fodder! I'll contact them tomorrow.

And conan, I don't necessarily disagree with your analysis. I do remember there was something Roth did that I liked quite a bit, but unfortunately, life got in the way and now I just can't remember what it was. [:I]  However, thanks to this ridiculous ploy, I'm now solidly in his corner. Dana Murphy just won him a solid supporter! Well done, OCPAC! [:D]
