How is this the only strip center in town without a liquor store and a nail salon/tanning booth place?

Only a matter of time I bet.

Considering you have roughly a mile-long (end to end) center with no grocery store either, I'm not too surprised. There is also no entertainment establishments either (theater, arcade, incredible pizza, etc)

If Casa Bonitas wanted to survive, they would close 21st and Sheridan and build a nice one (closer to the one in Denver) here. Tons of suburbanites would eat there on the way to Belk.

Last I heard (about a month ago) there is a "major hotel" and movie theater in the works for Tulsa Hills.  I will find out again this weekend to make sure it is still on track.  With the economy the way it is, it may have been pushed back.

Theaters are something that sadly get very little upkeep done. The owners just hang onto them and turn them into $1 theaters instead of keeping them up to date. Riverwalk has shown a good modern theater can be built and run fairly inexpensively and I'm hoping Tulsa Hills does the same.

All digital screens please.

At one time there was a rumor about Warren Theatres coming to Tulsa Hills.  They want to be in the Tulsa market for sure and are looking in the area.

I can see them going to the River District.

With the economy is that river developement a reality now?

I think it is a reality but downsized.  I would not expect to see huge retail announcements soon.  Projects all across the metro are stalled except for a few things.

If the whole project goes as planned, I would expect it to take longer to become reality.

The demographics in that area are still unheard of for just about any place in the midwest. This is a big project and will take most of this "recession" just to get it started. By the time they get a few chunks of it done in 2010-11, the economy will be back on the upswing again. Build it now while building is cheap, then have it ready when people are spending again. Perfect timing, especially if they already have the financing for it. Likely we will know much of the story on this development (how much, how fast, whats the national and local economic scenario looking like) by this coming summer when actual construction is due to start.
