Wow, BoA doesn't let you send a check to any person through their billpay? Crazy.

They do, but there is an extra charge if they aren't in their list of preffered billers.

False. You can send payment to anyone with a mailing address for free.

BofA?  Are you sure?  I tried that and they wanted to charge a 'fee' of 2 dollars.  One of the reasons I dumped them, but not the biggest.  When Git N Go shuttered, I lost the convenience I had with them and their fee-less ATM.  That's essentially why I switched to BOK.  Now the Kum N Gos that replaced them are literally a third of what Git N Go had to begin with.  With QT here, I don't see K & G staying in this market a lot longer.  QT has essentially set the standard for convenience stores not just in Tulsa, but in nearly every market they've entered (St. Louis, Des Moines/watch out K & G, Wichita, Kansas City).

Sorry, I'm off topic, but I was with BofA since they were Bank4.  It was difficult to leave a bank I was with for 14 years.

He's right.  No charge I've ever seen.

I just tested it and you are correct, it is free.

I don't know when they switched that, but I could've sworn that there used to be a fee if it wasn't in their list of preferred companies. It's been at least four years since I messed around with adding a payee. Not that it matters anymore, since I already have all of my e-Bills set up.

Thanks for the info!

wow, I tried to do that last May to transfer my money to BOK; it wanted to charge me a fee to do so.  So I just went down to BofA branch on Admiral in between Sheridan and Yale and told them to close it and give me my money.

Evidently the competition is forcing the larger bank's hand.

No worries though.  I'd have a hard time going back to a bank with some of the things I've heard about the executives doing since they've been getting the TARP money.

Thanks guys.  I was using BOA billpay and was on time as far as I could tell, but who knows.

I use BOA for 3 reasons:
1. Easy billpay and online is easy to navigate.
2. Both mortgages I have ever had with them have been extremely painless and with minimal paperwork.  Jack Felts is the man.
3. MOST IMPORTANT REASON!! Nosy SIL who works at BOK used to pry into our accounts and share details with rest of family.  [:(!]

That's a significant change for the better. Now if only they didn't charge a fee to cash checks drawn on their institution. (at least on commercial accounts, my understanding is that they don't charge for checks drawn on a consumer account)

That really annoys me. I don't take checks from BoA customers because of that one. Not that I often actually cash checks at the originating bank, but it's the principle of the matter.

I wouldn't use BoA if it was the last bank left.  They hosed me when they started charging fees for IRAs and their fees were higher then the interest I was making.  When I decided to close the IRA and move it into a mutual fund, they charged me even more fees, killing any interest I made with the IRA for many years.  My complaint letter to BoA fell on deaf ears, as I never got a response.

See ya!
