Bush not so hated in Woodward.

While he made bad decisions while president, there is no questioning his patriotism or desire to keep America safe.
Someone get Hoss a pacifier.

I'm glad he's going places he's liked. While I have a serious problem with the direction he pushed our country as President, I bear no ill will towards the man himself.

However, I can't help but quote this delicious irony:
Quote
Bush's principles ring true in Oklahoma, said Kris Day, who owns The Cowboy's Tack Shop with her husband, Neal.

''We're conservative,'' she said. ''We don't spend money we don't have.''
"Labor is prior to and independent of capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration" --Abraham Lincoln

While I'm sure you'll never answer me, I don't think anyone ever questioned his patriotism or will or desire to keep our country safe.

His competence is a different story, though.  We gave him a free pass after 9/11 that he took full advantage of.  In 2006 we wised up a little.

While I'm sure you would like to think I'm what you refer to as an 'Obama Spooner', I'm far from it.  We had two choices pretty much in the last general election.  A septegenerarian with a dolt who was the CEO for a state of less than half a million people for a running mate (I still say he might have won had he chosen Pawlenty over Palin) or someone who was appealing to the younger generation with a public servant of three decades plus as a running mate.

McCain's issues didn't turn me off to him.  What did was the prospect that he would expire while in office with Gov Palin taking the reins.  That frightened me more than everyones cries of Obama turning the country socialist.

I shudder to think what would have happened had:

1.  McCain won the election
2.  Then expired shortly thereafter.

While he (Obama) hasn't been perfect as what I consider a president (there are some things he's done sofar that leave me scratching my head) at this point, I gave Bush the same leeway 6 months into his presidency as well.  I like many other non conservatives gave him a free pass after 9/11, hoping he'd do the right thing.  It appeared he was, but then let the advisers start doing the talking for him (Iraq).

Gweed on the other hand has ODS in the worst way.

That's ok though.  It makes reading this forum amusing.  I always know I'm going to chuckle everytime I read something he's typed.  Especially after reading some of the stuff he posts on Freep.  You think he's bad here.   :o

I've managed 5 years without so much as a scant glance at the Freepers or the Daily Kos, and I don't plan to break that streak just to see what the gweed writes over there.  :P

It's safe to say Gwee does not read the newspaper.

Bush invite to event upsets dads
The fathers of two servicemen killed in Iraq say he shouldn't be Woodward's guest.

Typical Republican partisan nonsense and doubletalk.

I will never question Barack Obama's patriotism or his desire to keep America safe.
I felt the same way about Bush and Gore, and Clinton... and Reagan.
You can argue about the wisdom of certain policies without questioning people's motives and engaging in imaginative character muggings...

If we had another 9/11-style attack, I would hope that most of this country will unite behind Obama the same way ALL OF US gave Bush the benefit of the doubt until he decided to side with the neocons in a policy of pre-emptive war....

Of course, Sarah Palin will question Obama's patriotism at every turn and will raise boatloads of money from dem hating chattering class sheeple.....

Big whoop. Find me a president who's unpatriotic and who has a desire to keep America unsafe.

We should be long past the point of simply giving presidents an "A" for effort. As the GOP is discovering, poor-performing presidents have consequences.

Well said.  Competence isn't ideological.

Pretty sad when a former POTUS has to travel to Woodward, OK for his big public engagements.... Not much of a speaking fee there.
