I would go and they don't even have to have fireworks.  Way back when I was an avid fan of the Tampa Bay Rowdies.   I got to see Pele play twice.

I saw him play here with the NY Cosmos back in the day

Well, you may have seen him do an appearance for youth soccer, I remember as a kid going to the Assembly Center for a big Green Country Soccer Association thingy, and Pele was there working with some of the kids.... but Pele never played for the NY Cosmos at Skelly Stadium, he retired after the 1977 season, and Roughnecks' first season was in 1978.

Believe it or not, it was a Tampa Bay Rowdies versus Dallas Tornado exhibition game at Skelly Stadium that convinced the NASL of Tulsa's viability; 11,000 fans watched the game, and Team Hawaii moved to Tulsa....

USL1 wants to be in Tulsa, and they would have no problems playing at the fairgrounds.  No major modifications would be necessary.  USL1 would like to have teams in Tulsa, OKC and San Antonio because they already have a team in Austin and this would help a great deal with travel costs, although the guy I spoke with never talked about travel costs-- he tried to sell me on the kind of regional rivalry the teams could have...

I'd like to see TU bring back college baseball; back when I was a kid, my grandpa used to take me to TU baseball games at the old Oiler Park against OU and OSU.  TU could have an instant baseball rivalry with ORU and Wichita State.  Back in the day, the old Tulsa Oilers ballpark at the fairgrounds was LITERALLY falling apart; Drillers Stadium is NOT, and there's no reason to just bulldoze it.

TU brings back college baseball in the spring; USL1 soccer in the summer.... lease payments made, the County gets a cut of the concessions.... problem solved.

Also, TU's mens soccer program is a hidden jewel and deserves a higher profile.  They have become a regional power along with SMU, St Louis Univ, and Creighton.

TU is #12 in the College Soccer News preseason rankings and the old Driller Park could be a nice venue for them to tout for recruiting purposes.

There's been a rumor about coach McIntosh being courted by SMU... Creighton Univ has benefited greatly in recruiting by having this stadium close to downtown Omaha...

I suggested soccer stadium to County Commissioner Karen Keith last week. I think it is a great idea.

Sorry to hear that the TU coach is being recruited by another school. My kids took the TU soccer camp in June and love Coach Tom McIntosh.
Power is nothing till you use it.

Puerto Rico Islanders USL stadium was previously a ballpark-- built in 1974 with just over 12,000 seats....
