White House lukewarm on Van Jones after his "9/11 Truth" petition signature surfaces -- but Newsom "stands by him

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/nov05election/detail?entry_id=46917

Jones, who once oversaw Bay Area PoliceWatch while at the Ella Baker Center here, has become the subject of Van Jones Employment at the White House Watch. At least over at Fox, he is. The right is still smarting from ColorofChange (which Jones co-founded) leading an advertiser boycott of  Fox commentator Glenn Beck.>

While Jones' lefty past gets a shrug in many parts of liberal SF, it doesn't in much of the rest of the country. A quick gander at the list of signatures with Jones reveal an All-Star cast of Bay Area lefties: Code Pink co-founder Medea Benjamin, Global Exchange co-founder Kevin Danaher, Smith and Hawken founder Paul Hawken, Daniel Ellsberg and musician Michael Franti. But Jones didn't work for the White House then.

Indeed, as Van has transitioned from street activist to green champion -- the Yale Law grad is the first African-American to pen an enviro book that hit the NY Times best-seller list -- he's picked up a ton of A-list friends. Like, well, President Obama.

Guess who else is a big fan of Van: (Besides Al Gore.) SF Mayor and CA Gov. candidate Gavin Newsom. The Mayor described Van "a superstar" to us before he introduced him at the 2008 Netroots Nation (Daily Kos) conference.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But did you hear Newsom's ex-wife -- and Fox News commentator -- Kimberly Guilfoyle dish on Jones to Sean Hannity?

"Clearly he wasn't vetted," Guilfoyle said. "All they had to do was go and ask a couple of questions in San Francisco about this individual. You know there's a problem when he's not even wanted in the city of San Francisco where I come from. OK?"

She doesn't say who doesn't want him in SF. No matter. Kim's got more to dish.

"This is someone who actually just doesn't even like the United States of America, wants to reshape it, remake it into something that we would not even recognize, and what's so wrong with this country that we have an individual like this coming in, meddling in our affairs that has no idea what he is doing, who really is traitorous in his comments against this country," she said.

Doesn't like America? Kim doesn't explain why Jones would then work for the country he hates at its highest levels.

I don't know. Let's call Sarah Palin and get her opinion on witch hunts. As for Van Jones, here's the latest beginning at approx 3:40 (language warning):

So I guess in RUF's world a self-professed communist, troofer, and well-documented bigot having the ear of the president is a good thing, eh?

Here's a news story summarizing the past week of Jones coverage (yes, it's faux news):
Someone get Hoss a pacifier.

I think it's good to have a variety of opinions surrounding me, even those I disagree with.

P.S. This comment presumes Fox News is being truthful, which is not at all a given

Gweed's drinking Glenn Beck's koolaid again...

http://www.examiner.com/x-5738-Political-Buzz-Examiner~y2009m9d3-Video--Glenn-Becks-most-recent-attacks-on-Van-Jones-and-911-Truth-reveal-his-own-hypocrisy

"What the heck does this have to do with green jobs?"  Beck and the Van Jones opponents still have yet to point me to one actual statement or decision by Van Jones since he has been in office which show he is a communist, or racist, or tyrant, or conspiracy theorist.  Why are we not focusing on the actual job Van Jones is doing rather than completely unrelated facts?

Ultimately I find the weakness of Beck's argument comes from his arguments in the past.  Beck condemns the 9/11 Truth Organization and Van Jones for allegedly believing these crazy conspiracy theories yet he uses the same reasoning for his conspiracy theories.  Beck consistently "proves" that the Obama administration is establishing a tyranny by merely asking "questions."  When the questions go unanswered because they are too ridiculous to answer Beck counts that as confirmation of his theory just like the 9/11 Truth Organization.  Look to this Beck segment on the alleged "civilian national security force" as an example.

Beck also condemns Van Jones for allegedly believing that our government was capable of such a heinous act as perpetrating the death of thousands, yet Beck himself consistently suggests to his audience that the Obama administration wants an "emergency" in order to seize power.  Beck's conspiracy theories actually match up quite well with the reasoning of the 9/11 Truth Organization.  Beck has even gone as far as to suggest that President Obama's health care reform will be part of some overall Nazi eugenics program.  So if we condemn Van Jones for giving the 9/11 Truth Organization credence, must we not also condemn Beck for giving his own scary theories credence?

Glenn Beck's Crazy Lies About Van Jones
By Eva Paterson, Equal Justice Society. Posted August 31, 2009.

Glenn Beck spent last week smearing Van Jones with misinformation and outright lies. Here's setting the record straight.

Yeah, that Katie Couric interview, some witch hunt that was... ::)

Ironic you should bring up Sarah Palin, since she's the one who went "rogue" in the campaign by going on her own witch hunts....

"Our opponent . . . is someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect, imperfect enough, that he's palling around with terrorists who would target their own country."

"This is not a man who sees America as you see America and as I see America."
--Sarah Palin, October 2008

"The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's 'death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their 'level of productivity in society,' whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil." –-Sarah Palin, in a message posted on Facebook about Obama's health care plan, Aug. 12, 2009

Van Jones resigns:

Every time this devil gets disappointed with Obama, the republicans remind me why FOTD must support him even when this devil disagrees with some of PO's policies. We are in a war against the evils of racism and greed and we are the majority. We must not forget this and despair over the onslaught of hatred.

It's just one lost battle in the great good fight, brother Guido.
