I was amazed at the number of trucks I saw in mid-town with out-of-state plates. I know these races sell out as well. This thing is a great shot in the arm for the local economy. I am sure the hotels and restaurants are making some extra money.

I suppose other businesses attract this type of fan. The Urban Tulsa usually has big ads for all the topless bars offering race fans a deal.

I still have two T-shirts from the first Chili Bowl in 1987.  A lot of the local racers snickered because the shirts said: "First Annual Chili Bowl".  We didn't think there was a chance in hell that Emmett Hahn, Lanny Edwards, and Bob Berryhill would be able to attract very many cars or fans.  Indoor racing was notoriously boring, a city that had not had any regular midget racing since the 1950's couldn't get enough local fan interest to show up.

Glad we were wrong.  This event produces some of the best auto racing action anywhere and fans show up from coast-to-coast and as far away as Australia.

If you have never been, you owe it to yourself to go just one time.  It's like the Tulsa State Fair for gearheads only most of the people at the Chili Bowl do have their own teeth.  ;)
