This is why some people shouldn't own guns.

Tragic.  This guy should get the book thrown at him for negligence.  Possibly for manslaughter or worse.

I've never just walked off and "forgotten" about my gun.

How tragic indeed.

He's an idiot, but people sometimes forget things. I don't think that should necessarily be criminalized unless a pattern of negligent behavior can be proven.

It annoys me that every time bad smile happens there is this contingent saying someone must be jailed for it.

The guy is still an idiot. I'm sure he's punishing himself enough over the whole thing.

Unfortunately other people's punishment doesn't seem to be a real deterrent to negligence or willful acts.  The guy had a lapse in attention or judgement, but that's zero excuse when it comes to firearms.

ESPECIALLY when in the reach of children of any age under 14.  In some cases even older than that.

I'm pro-Second Amendment. But shouldn't a guy lose his guns or his gun license for this? We wouldn't blink an eye if we yanked someone's driver's license for reckless driving.

Only if he's charged with a felony

I've actually heard of guns being confiscated pending outcome of a trial, I do believe that happened to the pharmacist who capped the punk in OKC.  I seem to recall his attorney turning all his guns over to the care of the court pending the outcome.  No idea how Constitutional that is.  I generally find it best to refrain from doing things which would end up in being charged in the first place.  ;)
