Spending the day in OKC on Thursday with my fiance & we've never been. Wondering what we should do/where we should eat while we're there??? We have no place specific in mind--just going to check it out while we live in the area.  Would like to do some things outdoors & eat some place somewhat laid back & unique to OKC. Suggestions? Will research whatever you suggest to be sure it's right for us, so feel free so suggest anything you enjoy in OKC. Thanks in advance!!......................
..............Hi this is "the fiance" , I wanted to add to the post as far as restaraunts we would love to maybe check out some real good Oklahoma BBQ or Steaks, any suggestion anywhere near or just somewhere between here and OKC? Please don't list any chains, looking for something that is known for being exclusive to Oklahoma.

Sorry but I just gotta be a wise guy.

The thing I enjoy about OKC is leaving.

You are gonna need more than one day.

There is a Pei-Wei that is good to eat at.  (Norman and OKC)

Route 66 - get off turnpike at Wellston and take Mother Road the rest of the way to I-35.  On the way;
Round barn in Arcadia
Popz - grill and largest selection of sodas in the universe!  Or at least in Oklahoma.  Used to have "Rat Bastard" root beer by Skeleteens.  Wonderful!!!

If get off road a little earlier (Chandler), there is a Ken's Pizza!  Like a better version of Mazzio's.

OKC
Myriad gardens - great if you like plants.  Pretty good even if you don't.
OKC Bombing Memorial - must see!
Cowboy Hall of Fame
Oklahoma City Museum of Art
Frontier City amusement park
Noble Museum of Natural History (Norman)
Go on a boat ride on the Oklahoma river (downtown)
Walk around Lake Hefner (northwest of city center)
Cattlemen's Restaurant in the stockyard district - near downtown.

Heartland Flyer train ride to Ft. Worth, TX.  Very cool - a couple day trip.  Park in the parking lot at the Marriott (very cheap and covered!) across from the train station and rent a car at Enterprise in Ft. Worth when you get there.  Then eat at Cattlemen's in Ft. Worth.

Need more to fill out the late afternoon??  Just before dinner?

Check out the OU campus in Norman.  It's beautiful and they have an urban district called Campus Corner just to the north with dozens of shops and restaurants.  There is also a really nice art museum on campus and a good natural history museum just south of campus.  Norman is about 15-30 min. south of downtown OKC on I-35, depending on traffic and construction (both constants on that highway).

In OKC the Cowboy Museum, the OKC Memorial, and the OKC Museum of Art are all worth seeing.  The Myriad Gardens is also kinda cool but will be revamped soon so I would wait for another trip to see it.  The OKC Zoo is one of the better zoos I've been to but is pretty similar to Tulsa's zoo except they have gorillas.  One of my favorite areas is the Asian District where you can find lots of mostly Vietnamese restaurants and businesses including two gigantic Asian supermarkets.  Coffee Slingers at 10th & Broadway is an awesome coffee shop and I haven't found one quite like it in Tulsa.  I have lived in both Norman and OKC and know both really well.  PM me if you want more info on places to eat and more specific places to see.

You can watch the Western Conference finals between the Lakers and Suns on television...

Red Arrow "Bazinga"
CJ. The Bricktown Brewery and Mickey Mantles across the street are good places.
If you go when a ball game is being played, its like being in a sky box while at Mantles. Very cool.
You got to check out the Memorial at night, also very cool. Take the camera.
Changing opinions one mistake at a time.

I like Chellino's a lot. One of their locations is in bricktown.

Joey, do you like movies about gladiators?
When attacked by a mob of clowns, always go for the juggler.

National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, for sure.  Excellent exhibits that go so far in depth there's even a room set aside for a barbed wire collection.

Bricktown is full of bars just like any entertainment district anywhere else in the U.S.  Not very interesting in my book.

Asian Town is very cool, if you're in town on Sunday, go to the Grand House for Dim Sum.

Myriad gardens are also excellent, even in their pre-renovation stage.  Beautiful stuff.

Stop by the Murrah Memorial as well.  Inside the building, there's a museum with (more or less) chronologically arranged exhibits and information.  The Memorial itself is beautifully peaceful and stark.

See... I told you it is going to take more than one day.

But Tulsa is like that, too.  Have you done the whole Tulsa thing?

Then you can branch out to Woolaroc up by Bartlesville.  The Tall Grass Prairie at Pawhuska.  Branson, MO. - tons of stuff.

Anywhere you go in this country you can find lots of stuff to do.  (Even Indiana....lol!!)  Like the RV museum.

Dine: Red Prime Steakhouse, Urban Starr Urban BBQ, Cheevers, Cafe do Brasil, Museum Cafe.

Myriad Gardens is closed completely for revamping.

National Memorial is best at nighttime.

Bricktown is a given. The canal rides are fun if you've never done it.

Oklahoma City Museum of Art.

Chesapeake Boathouse is beautiful at night.

Fred Jones Museum in Norman is worth it for the Weitzenhoffer Collection by itself.
Sam Noble Museum of Natural History in Norman is great if you have kids.

Be sure to check out the tollbooth in the McDonald's parking lot in Wellston.  When they say "only in Oklahoma" they really mean it.

RV museum lol not sure what that is, but your right Indiana might not have round barns, chinese restaurant chains, a place with a bunch of sodas, and a pizza place a little better than Mazzios, (worst pizza I've ever eaten). ;)

RV as in recreational vehicle museum.  Biggest single concentration of the industry is Evansville and they have a museum somewhere near there.  I am really, truly looking forward to getting the chance to visit.

I made the assumption you were from Indiana, or close ties from the flag.  I have family in southeast of state in very pretty area.  Near Rising Sun.  They love it.  Haven't had the chance to visit them, but very much looking forward to it.

I bet there is plenty of other stuff to do there - I just haven't had chance to look around to see.  At the very least, I would go look at Purdue, and try to get a tour of one of the RV manufacturers, and Franklin Electric if they have them (I would at least ask).  Gotta be a ton of stuff to do there.  There is everywhere else in the country.  And isn't there a lake somewhere to the north?  Kind of on the big side as lakes go?  How about some fishing/camping/boating, etc?

And if memory serves from previous trips, there is some serious corn to see, isn't there?

Mazzio's is Okie pizza.  If you have lived in Indiana, you have likely had much better - real pizza.
