Thanks for finding this topic, I tried searching for it today when the story came about.  I hope the media pushes the truth as much as they did their implications that it was caused by police brutality.

Conan . . . "prior to the beating" . . . he wasn't beaten.  He was extremely combative, do you know that even after he was taken to the hospital, he was still fighting, had to be put in restraints?  He didn't fit into the patrol car and they brought the van, and he continued to fight while being loaded into the van.  That's where the injuries came from.  He was thrown out of a bar for being out of control violent, had to be restrained at the hospital for his violent behavior . . . I'm sorry, but this isn't an issue of police brutaility, he caused his own injuries by fighting so agreessively.  He is huge, he had to be forcibly restrained, he was out of control. 

I actually expected better from you.  The officers were basically accused in the media of murdering this man, and that was no where near the truth (and preliminary reports available right away indicated the drug overdose, but the media didn't talk about that).  I think we have plenty of bad apples to focus on right now without degrading the ones that are still out there working their tails off, in horrible enviornments, with a shi$$y mayor, no backers on calls because we are so short staffed.  I want to fight for and encourage the good guys right now, not made snide comments about stuff that isn't true.

Do you have a source for this information?  I'm not saying your wrong, I just really don't know enough about the case to know what is what and would like to read this from it's origins.

tulsa_fan, sorry my bad, I should have used the adjective "alleged".  I simply made short-hand out of patric's comment.  No, all along I questioned his motives as Kimmel had a history of egging people into a position where he could sue them.  As I was not there the night this took place, I cannot say with 100% accuracy who did what.  I know what the police claim in their report and I know what Mr. Kimmel claimed in his complaint.  No witnesses have ever come forward to contradict the account the police gave and the bar manager seemed glad to have him out of their club.  Yet no one has ever come forward to contradict Mr. Kimmel's claim.

I also know from reading his blog that he was foobared up, beyond drunk and still didn't remember what happened, though he seems to give a rousing account of it in his official complaint.  By studying his past via his blog and other's comments on him, he was a trouble-maker.  

He had a history of depression and substance abuse, including drugs.  There's no proof anywhere that the opiates he had in his system were even being taken as a result of his skirmish with police.

Conan, thanks!  I was a little shocked by your comment and took it to the extreme.  I am a little sensitive right now with all the crap that is being done to our police department.  Some of it necessary (federal investigation) some of it uncalled for (mayor's BS).  I've watched several great officers leave Tulsa in the last few weeks finally giving up hope of coming back to TPD.  All the while, 62 officers retired, more than double what was expected under the current the budget; we haven't brought a single officer back.  The mayor goes and gets money from other departments to pay his own shortfall, when everyone else had to layoff employees.  Then Chief Jordan present a budget, WITHIN THE $$ REQUESTED BY THE MAYOR, which calls for all officers coming back July 1st, plus an academy, but the mayor won't start the process.  Instead he sends emails and "encourages" the officers and firemen to support the revenue enhancements so he could "maybe" bring officers back and give firefighters their cut in pay back.  The police think they have a deal for next year's contract and just try to paper it up and the city continues to pull crap and try to retrade the deal.  I'm sick, literally sick, of it all and don't even know how to make a difference anymore.  So when an unjust comment is made, I popped off.

As for proof, nothing I can provide for review.  IA did investigate the brutality claim, a lot of that came from their review.

I think the first line says alot, he thinks he is being targeted because he filed suit against the state over a vanity plate. He does sound sue happy, and in his mind it sounds like he thinks that a particular officer may have been doleing out justice because he was sueing the state because he didn't get what he wanted. He blames the media for the coverage? He probably went to the media after he filed his suit. It sounds like he had more problems than alchohol and drugs.

Just to point out that most people know what Trooper Martin looks like now.  I'm not at all supporting this guy's stance or statement, but just pointing out that if it catches your attention, you pay attention, and they tend to stay in your head.
