A New York-based investment group has named Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group Inc. as having the second-best performing shares among the top tier of companies listed on U.S. stock exchanges during the past two years.

On Wednesday, the second anniversary of the bull market's beginning on March 9, 2009, Bespoke Investment Group LLC of Harrison, N.Y., highlighted the top-performing U.S. stocks in the Russell 3000 Index.

The index measures the performance of the largest 3,000 U.S. companies, representing about 98 percent of the publicly traded U.S. equity market.

In the past 24 months, the average stock in the Russell 3000 Index is up 260 percent, Bespoke Investment Group said.

Bespoke said the top five stock performers during the past two years had share price increases of at least 5,000 percent.

The top two were Dana Holding (ticker symbol: DAN), whose share price increased 9,160 percent, and Tulsa-based Dollar Thrifty (DTG), whose shares rose 7,577 percent, Bespoke said.
