Engine Braking on I-44

I work near I-44 & Yale and hear trucks along I-44 engine braking several times every hour.  Some or louder than others, some are extremely loud.  All annoying.  Some of it is attributable to the construction along I-44 - dump trucks, rigs hauling heavy equipment, etc moving to and from work areas - while others are just traversing through town.

If I recall correctly, Tulsa banned engine braking within the city limits a few years ago.  Who should I call to try and get this enforced along I-44?  Is that OHP or TPD?  Mayor's action line?

Good luck with that, I'm sure they will get right on enforcing that along with distracted/reckless/aggressive driving, improper lane changes, speeding, driving with a great dane on one's lap...

You would need to find some agency with deep pockets that can offer grant money to pay for overtime, provided they meet a "performance goal".
Either that, or make it such an irresistible photo-op that they jump at it to offset the bad publicity of the corruption trial.
That's pretty much the status quo, isnt it?

I have not noticed it, but it can be very loud if you live/work in the area that's for sure. I dunno if it's aginst city rules or not but city rules may not apply to the interstate highway system. The number of loud car radios is getting out of hand, the city could and should start enforcing loud car stereo noise laws   and rake  in alot of fine money as a result. That should help the city budget. That would be easy income for the city at $100.00 a pop (or more if the fines were increased).

Jakes can be prohibited by cities.  And that stretch of road is Highway Patrol - call them.

Dump truck drivers in particular have a bad rep among truck drivers in general.  Thought of as the 'bottom feeders' of the industry.

I don't share my thoughts because I think it will change the minds of people who think differently.  I share my thoughts to show the people who already think like me that they are not alone.

Is Jake braking necessary ? I always thought they were doing it just to hear the loud motor.

Not in Oklahoma, except maybe out in the panhandle.  It is for use when on downhill grade to hold speed so that brakes don't burn out (short explanation.)  You never need it in Tulsa (or OKC) unless you are an incompetent driver, or a dump truck driver (same thing - sorry about the redundancy).

I kind of like the sound - kind of like a Harley with straight pipes.
