I think the problem is that this was supposed to be a foreign policy debate, but Romney strayed from it.  Now, not to detract, Obama followed, but the fact that the Repubs were evidently in the spin room 10 minutes before the debate was over is not good news for the robot.

Romney clearly was off balance at the start.  He was stammering then managed to steer it to a topic he's more comfortable with: the economy.  I believe the segue was along the lines of: "We can't have a strong foreign policy if we have a weak economy."

Foreign policy is always the achilles heel of the challenger against an incumbent.  No doubt, many of Obama's broken promises on foreign policy since the last campaign are the result of the military and intelligence community saying: "No Mr. President, we really do need to leave Gitmo open." along with other issues which you simply cannot appreciate until you are in office.

I really don't have too much to nitpick about foreign policy the last four years, I'm glad OBL is dead, I'm glad Qadaffi was deposed with as little bloodshed and $$ as possible.  I wish we'd just go back to good old fashioned CIA assassinations and coups when it comes to overthrowing despots.  ;D  I still question the president's commitment to Israel and his treatment of their leader.

One opportunity Romney did miss though was the accord that set the end of the Iraq war was ratified with the Iraqis while Bush was still in office.  Obama simply carried out that timeline.  I think he takes too much credit for ending that war.

I thought the president's overall performance was pretty good last night.  He seemed focused and it was probably the best I've seen him in an extemporaneous format.  I enjoyed the interaction between the Obamas and Romneys afterwards.  I'd love to know what Tag and the president were saying to each other.  Be on the lookout for some pretty creative memes today ;)

I'll give the edge to the president last night.  It should have been right up his alley because he's been at the epicenter of our foreign policy the last four years.

(Well at least when he hasn't been golfing or taking lavish vacations).  ;D

Just MHO, but if the true goal for the middle east is "peace" then doesn't it make sense that we will never get Palestine to the table if we are always in lockstep with Israel? Isn't this what the president really means with the "daylight" comment?

Crownan, you're being generous today. Come Nov. 6th, you'll still be voting your true colors...
