Three periods of time in my lifetime I depended on MTTA. As a high school student the stop in my neighborhood was just a few blocks away and travelled quickly down 6th street to Central High School. Always loaded with riders.

When I returned from college and my first job was a downtown oil company, my humble rent home just north of Admiral and Harvard was close to a stop on Independence. Parking was expensive downtown and we only had one car and a motorcycle. The bus took us quickly and easily to within a couple blocks of my office building. Also loaded with riders.

Within the last two years I had vehicle breakdowns that required me to take a bus from near downtown to West Tulsa near the refinery. Once again it was nearby, quick, painless and timely. Ridership down but wasn't at peak times either.

The commonality to these periods was my proximity to downtown either as a destination or a departure. The added benefit was the people riding were...entertaining and enlightening. Once you get out of a 5 mile range of downtown it doesn't seem so efficient but may be the only transportation available for some people. And of course the buses are much more comfortable than they used to be and the experience of not having to bother with frustrating traffic tie ups and moronic drivers is a value in itself.
