What's your favorite City(s)

I'm doing a little project on cities and I was wondering if you all can help me.

I'm want to know what your favorite cities are and why?  They don't necessarily have to be US cities.  If you will please, tell me what your favorite cities are then briefly discuss why or what it is about that city you like.  Your city of preference may even be one that you have read about or seen pictures of.  

For instance,

My favorite city happens to be Paris.  I especially enjoy the culture of the city, the diversity, the built environment, the Metro, and their neighborhoods.

Another favorite happens to be Toronto.  For many reasons similar to Paris.  Although it is not nearly as well built as Paris it is still remarkably intact; many vibrant walkable neighborhoods and an efficient transportation network that allowed me to be quite mobile.

additionally, although I've never been I really want to visit Vancouver, BC.  I am amazed at pictures of that city and how it appears they have remarkably been able to establish a lively city while maintaining proximity to a breath taking environment.

Other cities I have enjoyed include Boston, NYC, Louisville, Charlotte, Providence, Portland, ME and OR.
