"Tulsa World on bond measure:

A town meeting will be held next week to suggest projects for a huge bond issue.

Don't get excited. It's not in Tulsa. It's in Bixby, Tulsa's smaller neighbor to the south.

A group of citizens proposing a big bond issue for public improvements is something that seldom happens in Tulsa, unfortunately. In this city, the needs have to be overwhelming to be put on a bond issue and then civic leaders have to cough up $500,000 or so to mount a campaign to convince Tulsans of what they ought to do.

Sorry about the cynicism. But it comes out as Bixby, now considered to be the fastest-growing city in the state, announced a town hall meeting at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday to consider suggestions for projects on a potential $20 million bond issue. ...

Bixby is one of several aggressive, growing cities surrounding Tulsa. They are growing because of "can-do" attitudes ... .

Broken Arrow, Jenks, Owasso, Sand Springs and Bixby are the major movers, so envied by some Tulsa city officials that there have been efforts to hamper the suburban growth.

That would be a mistake. Tulsa needs the suburbs; the suburbs need Tulsa. But it would be nice if the "let's make something happen" attitude that built Tulsa would return. Meanwhile, best of luck to Bixby."
