Cable vs. DSL

I'm on a cable modem.  And I'm getting ready to switch to DSL.

What should I look for?  Anybody have problems with DSL?  Is it as fast as it claims, or is it just barely an upgrade from AOL?  Is Cable clearly better than DSL, are they about even, or is the opposite true?  What's the deal?
