I heard on KRMG that the Mayor was the first in line to file election paperwork this morning. I drove by the election board about half past eight and saw that someone had already put three of his campaign signs in the right-of-way in front of the election board.

I don't want to write about the fact that they are probably violating a city ordinance by putting them there, but instead mention their look.

It is a bright red sign that just says LaFortune. It doesn't say "Re-elect", or "for Mayor", "2006", or "4 more years", or even "Bill", just his last name.

I thought it was interesting. Simplistic can be effective and I guess he already has name recognition. I kinda thought he would add his first name as to not confuse voters with his uncle that was Mayor, but maybe that was so long ago or was part of the strategy.

Tom Baker probably can't use the same approach because people would be looking around for bread and Kathy Taylor probably refers people to a nearby seamstress for bad spellers.

I know that candidates really only have three colors or so that they can use. Red, blue and green with white letters or reverse, but the Mayor's bold red sign with white letters looks like a stop sign to me.
Power is nothing till you use it.
