Pit bulls Outlawed?

It really irritates me to think that Oklahoma would even think about trying to outlaw pitbulls. Now, I don't own any myself. Actually, I own Boston Terriers, but they were origionally bred for fighting as well. As a trainer, I am experienced with all breeds and pitbulls have a sweet disposion and get along great with kids. Petey from "The Little Rascals" was a pitbull and worked around kids everyday with no problems. It's all about how they are raised, not their temperament.

Underground breeders breed these dogs for fighting and raise them to fight. So that is all the dogs know. They learn that people are mean and vicious and may harm them, but it is not the dogs' fault. We shouldn't outlaw the whole breed, but instead have stricter laws about who can breed them. Every breeder should be made to have a license, with strict fines attached for not complying. All dogs should then be registered with the city. It will take calls and complaints form neighbors to help catch underground breeders in the act. If caught raising the dogs for fighting and/or actually fighting them, jail time and fines should be applied, and the offenders rights to owning another dog revoked for a certain time period, say 3 or 4 years. Obviously, it would take some sit down time to come up with new laws for breeders, but you catch my drift.

If we let Oklahoma outlaw pitbulls, what's next? German Shepherds? Dobies? Rotts? Chows? Bostons? Don't punish the breed, punish the irresponsible owners.
