Hmmm. I've got a court appearance tomorrow in Kane County, Illinois.

Without giving the entire sordid story... I did without a car in Chicago for months and months after moving from Oklahoma...

Ended up using my valid State of Illinois ID for business purposes and kept my Oklahoma DL because Illinois wanted me to re-take my driver's test and I had no car...

Bought a car 3/1/06 and used my Oklahoma DL to get insurance/tag. The insurance company in Illinois told me I had a clean record and all I needed to do was get my license changed to Illinois by the end of May... also during that time rented a car from Hertz for a trip to Indiana using my Oklahoma DL and didn't have any problems...

Well, I got stopped for a burned out tail-light 4/12/06 and was told my license had been suspended in Oklahoma for "non-payment of insurance."

My car was impounded and OK DL taken away... got my car back (after paying $260) but Illinois won't let me take a driver's test until AFTER my court appearance...

After speaking with the Financial Responsibility dept at the Okla. Dept of Public Safety, I was told to send a notarized letter as proof of residence and they'd take off the suspend...

Question: How could Hertz and my insurance company in Illinois allow me to drive without informing me that my Okla. driver's license had been suspended for "non-payment of insurance." If I'd known, I could have taken action instead of driving for weeks (with valid Illinois insurance) not knowing I was driving with a suspended license... I have a copy of my insurance company's request for MVR detailed inquiry and it shows a clean record with no violations or suspensions...

I get to pay $1000 cash bond tomorrow and may have to pay $500-plus for the ticket for driving with a suspended out-of-state license... suggestions for somebody who's never been to traffic court before?
