Inhofe No Longer On Senate Environmental Committee After Democratic Takeover
Thursday November 09, 2006 9:04pm

Washington, DC (AP) - The Democratic takeover of the U-S Senate means an Oklahoma senator that expresses skepticism about global warming no longer will be in charge of the Senate's environmental committee.

Oklahoma Senator Jim Inhofe will be replaced by California Senator Barbara Boxer as the committee's chairperson, a move that environmentalists welcome.

Inhofe had blocked bills seeking to cut the greenhouse gases contributing to global warming, calling the issue, quote, "the greatest hoax perpetrated on the American people."

Boxer today promised major policy shifts on global warming, air quality and toxic-waste cleanup as she prepares to head the committee.

Boxer is one of the Senate's most liberal members, while Inhofe is one of its most conservative members.

YEAH! Now the US can spend billions of dollars preventing something that isn't really happening! And yes, I am serious. My Bible (the Bible) says nothing about the world ending because of "Global Warming." Instead of whining about global warming, maybe the dems should go outside and pick up the friggin' trash all over their towns. This would help the environment much more.

Barbara Boxer .... what a biotch.

Instead maybe the government can spend billions of dollars on a war that we're not even loosing!  Your bible must be much more detailed than any I've ever read. What exactly are the details of the end of the world? You could be picking up trash right now instead of posting hate on a message board. That would be much better for the environment!

Chicken Little

I was listening to NPR (Nice, Polite Republicans) this morning and they suggested that energy was one area that the Senate could find some consensus and produce legislation.  Alternative fuels is as much about energy independence and national security as it is about global warming.  So it might be possible to get 9 or so Republicans to agree with the majority.

Civics:  The Democrats will have a 51 vote majority, but in reality, it'll take 60 votes to prevent fillibusters and get a bill through the Senate.

You can't possibly be serious...but I'm afraid you are.

Jeez...it's Republicans like you that give the rest of us NORMAL Republicans a bad name.

Yeah, but Inhofe likes her. He said about her in the paper the other day: "Opposites attract."

Barbara and Jimmy, sittin' in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G.

Kos is already describing Inhofe's seat as a "Potential Democratic Pickup Opportunity"

Oklahoma: Jim Inhofe (R)

Inhofe isn't too popular at home these days and rumors are that he'll quit. His fundraising hasn't been torrid by any stretch of the imagination, with just $500K CoH. Brad Carson, who waged an energetic and competitive race in 2004 against Crazy Tom Coburn would probably be interested in a run. So might incumbent Democratic governor Brad Henry. If the national mood is still anti-Republican in 2008, this one could be in play (Bush's approval/disapproval rating is 46/51 in Oklahoma).

Man I love the 50-state strategy.  Thanks Dean and netroots!

Here is something funny about the elections...

Look, just because Rush and the Republican Party told you to believe that it's not happening, that doesn't mean that it's not happening. One of the problems with people like you is that you look to charlatans like Rush for your science. Hiding your head in the sand because it doesn't fit the Party Line doesn't make it go away.

Yeah, I don't think that Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs mentions it either. But I don't rely on fairy tales for science.

ROFLMAO!!!!!!! So now Democrats are also responsible for all litter? Too bad the Soviet Union isn't still around. I'm sure you could have a major role as a party official. [}:)]

LOL! I bet just about everybody is a biotch in your book if they aren't a right wing, fundamentalist Christian, Republican, white, male neocon. [}:)]

Ya know, Cubs, I don't think I've EVER seen anyone that was brainwashed by a political party as you are. If it wasn't so sad and pathetic, it would probably actually be FUNNY.

My bet would be Henry, Boren, or Taylor will run for this seat.

I would take that bet.

Henry and Taylor will finish their terms and Boren will have plenty of chances to run in his future to give up a safe seat where he is the only Oklahoma democratic congressman.

The democrats need somebody good to run, unless Inhofe chooses to not run again.
Power is nothing till you use it.

Your bible probably doesn't say anything about calling a person you've never met a dirty name on an internet forum, either. Which is obviously why you hypocritically used a very un-Christian term to describe Boxer.

You want the reason why the country threw the Republicans out on their ear? Look in the mirror.

Cubs

Oh goodness .... where do I start.

First, I do not listen to Rush. In fact I have not listened to any political radio in quite a while. I have heard it here and there, but the last time I listened regularly was around Election 2004.

Second, my comment about the Bible .... basically I believe God controls the environment. If it is warming, it is because thats what God wants and not because of my car. Oh, and papaspot, if you think the Bible is just a fairy tale, well I don't know what to say ... I will pray for you.

Third, even if the environment is warming, is that something to be worried about? The environment goes in cycles. All the 'proof' that there is global warming is soooo short termed. Yeah, maybe there is less snow on this mountain the past few years than there has been the 40 years prior, but what about 500 years ago? What was it like then? No one knows! This is not 'proof'!!!

Fourth, about the trash comment. I realize that people of both parties litter. I was not trying to suggest that only Democrat towns have litter issues. They are just the ones whining about the environment, so that is why I suggested they should be the ones to help the environment by picking up litter.

Fifth, me calling Dianne Feinstein a "biotch" was just an example of my sinful nature. All individuals, both those saved and those unsaved have a sinful human nature. I am sorry that my disappointment over the recent election spilled out in the public for all to see.

I hope that is all!!??

Whatever chills your beer.

Even the pseudo-scientists (i.e. the Republican Platform writers) don't question the fact that we're in a state of global warming. The only people that think that we're not are the neocons that haven't even read the Republican Talking Points completely. The only controversy is whether it's caused by human activities.

Wrong. If you got your science from somewhere other than TownHall.com or FrontPage.com, you would know that ice core samples have been taken as far back as 650,000 years and show that the levels of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere are now 27% higher than they were at any time during that period.

If ya knew ANYTHING about the data, you'd know that they don't base anything on the "snow on this mountain." But you're obviously not interested in science, you're interested in politics.

If people like you had your way, we'd be up to our ASSES in liter.

You let yourself off pretty easy. I really don't see it as disappointment. I see it as hate.
