I was trolling through the sad offerings on the Tulsa radio dial the other day and came across a real surprise. 107.9 FM is a new smooth jazz station and is commercial free!! They do some underwriting and public service announcements but for the most part, it is just really great music.

And no, I am in no way affiliated with the station - just a really big fan! They played an awesome set from Peter Mayer this afternoon which really made my day.

This station is very exciting news to the Tulsa radio scene especially for those like me who have turned strictly to satellite out of sheer desperation.

Check it out - you will be pleasantly surprised! And spread the word - they need listeners to stay on the air.[8D]

Thanks for the information!

I will give this station a try.
Power is nothing till you use it.

All I have to say is, "FINALLY!!!"

On a side note, I think that Tulsa provides a good line-up (on occasion, though, they have been lacking for a city their size). Evidently you haven't lived in smaller cities.

I'm in Broken Arrow and I can't get this station to come in. I can faintly pick up KEZA, 107.9 in Fayetteville though! Is it low wattage or something?

What is smooth jazz? Just a bunch of Kenny G songs?

Thanks for the tip. I changed one of my presets from 106.9 to 107.9

I know that as a 40 something it may be expected that I may not like the newest pop music.  But I really dont consider myself to be one of those people who get stuck relistening to the music of their "glory days".  I have always looked forward to the newest trend or the next great song.

But it seems to me that rap, which I have never really liked, has taken over the pop stations and has been around for a loooong time lol.

It seems to me that each decade had its unique sound of rock and contemporary music.  There was a distinct 50s style, 60s, 70s disco, 80s... Rap started being played in the 80s then became the sound of the 90s, But its still practically all they play and its the end of 2006?  Are there no new sounds or trends anymore?

Or is it the large corporate conglomerates that now exist, controlling most of the stations, and stagnating variety?

Are there no pop or contemporary rock music stations that are not rap in Tulsa?  I mentioned this to one of my 20 something friends and he said he was frustrated by that too.  But he says that when he goes to other places like Dallas, there are different stations that play music other than rap.

Am I just old?  Or are there no independent stations that play the trendy hip music of today? Is rap all there is?

If it's commercial free, that's just temporary as no radio station can survive without ad revenues.  If it's just Kenny G and others of his ilk, the station is temporary.

Havent heard any Kenny G yet, thank goodness lol.

This is great to know and I'll be checking it out. I'm also glad to hear that I'm not the only one that gets nose bleeds listening to Kenny G over and over on these Jazz stations.
