Sportswriter Frank Deford will speak at TU on: "The Hype and the Hoopla: The Good and Bad of Sports"

Quintessential sports writer Frank Deford will open TU's 2006-07 Presidential Lecture Series. Deford is the senior contributing writer at Sports Illustrated; a commentator on National Public Radio's Morning Edition; a regular correspondent on the HBO show, RealSports With Bryant Gumbel; and the author of more than a dozen books, two of which have been made into movies.

Deford has been elected to the Hall of Fame of the National Association of Sportcasters and Sportswriters and was voted by his peers as U.S. Sportswriter of The Year six times.

The Sporting News describes him as "the most influential sports voice among members of the print media," and the magazine GQ calls him simply, "the world's greatest sportswriter."
