Rice pays visit to area Democrats; may challenge Inhoffe
By Don Diehl 07/12/2007

A freshman state senator, speaking to a group of area Democrats this week, confirmed he may file for election against incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe.

Democrats need to quit letting the other party define who they are, and re-focus on their long-time core mission of caring about people. That's what Oklahoma freshman senator Andrew Rice told a gathering of Creek County Democrats in Bristow this past week.

"We're the party that wants to look out for everybody," said Rice who represents Senatorial District 46 at Oklahoma City. "We're the ones with compassion for all, not just pary members and special interest groups ... accountable to the common man," he told those in attendance at the meeting of the Little Deep Fork Democratic Club. "Everyone deserves educational opportunities, health care and good wages," he said, "and office holders accountable to the people."
Rice had come to Bristow to encourage Creek County Democrats.

Local Democrat Michael Womack reminded the gathering that Republicans now hold Creek County seats that should be represented by Democrats. He and State Representative Eric Proctor are involved in a political action committee seeking candidates for both House Districts 29 and 30.

John Mark Young, who narrowly lost the senatorial race to Brian Bingman in the last election, introduced Rice.
During the question and answer period, Rice also confirmed that he was exploring a run against Republican U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe.
Rice, a 34-year-old Harvard divinity school graduate, father of two young sons, and husband of Oklahoma City pathologist Dr. Apple Newman Rice, said that Inhofe is a partisan politician who represents special interests at the expense of Oklahomans.
He said he feels humbled to be sought out by national leaders to challenge Inhofe.

A consultant traveling with Rice this past week said that Rice is currently on "a listening" tour across the state as he considers running for the national seat.

Meanwhile, Rice is talking about successes of Senate Democrats at the state level this past session despite the even split in party.
"I've learned the importance of working with all for the good of the state," he said. "My district in Oklahoma City has a diverse makeup," he said. "I am accountable to all of my constituents."

Rice won election with 70 percent of the vote.
Rice also told how the death of his older brother, David Rice, killed in the attacks on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, led him to seek politics as a way "to have a seat at the table" of decisions that impact lives.

Rice is a rank amateur.  He's been a state senator now, what 6 monhts. Not a chance.  I bet Brad Henry will be ready for a taste of Washington.  Rice should be focused on the needs of his district, not touring around testing the waters for a national run.

He's every bit as much a partisan Democrat as Inhofe is a Partisan Republican.  To wit:

"Democrats need to quit letting the other party define who they are, and re-focus on their long-time core mission of caring about people."

He couldn't make money with his Harvard Divinity degree so he's going on the public dole.

This is your second or third post about Rice I'm about ready to cry "SPAM!"

The Republican's said the same thing when Brad Henry ran for Govenor. They said the same thing when Barack Obama ran for Senate. They say a lot of things that have no meaning to the general public lately. Inhofe is a prime example of that. Here's another quote from that article that I think bears repeating "Everyone deserves educational opportunities, health care and good wages," he said, "and office holders accountable to the people." I don't know about the rest of the state, but I think in Tulsa this message will carry a lot of meaning. We'll see. Stay tuned. Cheers.

Great, he's well versed in political pandering.  Just what we need another hand-fed born and bred politician.

Who doesn't spout this meaningless crap to become a part of state and national power brokering?

You are showing your relative youth, you obviously aren't as jaded toward idealistic, aspiring, politicians as I've become. [;)]

It would be a vast improvement over Inhofe.
