Been doing some thinking about home, where the heart really is. I know they say that alot, but it happens to be true.

Sure, a piece of my heart is in New Orleans. I was born there and lived there the first few years of my life; so many of my favorite childhood memories came from there. I'd go back and visit my relatives every chance I got as a kid-which is to say, I went down there alot as a kid and a teenager. Liked it so much, I returned there to go to college. I still get back there every now and then....

I currently live in Biloxi, and I find that some of my most fondest memories of all are in Tulsa. And you'll have to take my word for it when I say that they are very fond memories. And here lately, I have this urge to return to Tulsa, to move back, to come back to stay. Thinking about it very strongly. Been thinking about it even before I joined the board. Should this happen, it should be in the next two years.

My question here, is what is the cost of living like? Are there plenty of cosmetology jobs? What is the price range of condos? Is it more active? Someone give me some pointers here.

Cost of living is 10 to 15 percent below the national average.

Go to Realtor.com and check out the prices of condos in the Tulsa area and search by zip code. I think it's a buyer's (or renter's) market right now.

As for cosmotology jobs, I have no idea.

Most of us on this forum could probably use a makeover...both in looks and personality.

Come back to Tulsa and make us look purty.

I would say cosmetology jobs are a bit better here than some areas since you will notice a fairly high number of permanent makeup, botox, plastic surgery, salons and gastric bypass offices in the area. Image is pretty important to a lot of people (so long as they don't have to pay more in taxes to improve it)

There are more spas popping up all the time.  Just guessing from your previous posts on here you have between 10 and 20 years experience in that field, yes?  If you have that much, I'd venture a guess you could sign on with one of the more lavish and established spas or salons.

I have a stepdaughter who is in an esthetician's program as we speak.  My understanding from her is that is a pretty wide-open field right now just about anywhere.  I don't know personally and she still has a young person's utopic view of the world.

As you are well aware, there are three large casinos in the area which could support your dealer avocation as well.

Come on back, sounds like tulsa1603 might be leaving, we need someone to replace his sales tax revenues. [Wink]

As a condition of employment, I get to do it all: though I'm primarily a hairstylist, I will also find myself fulfilling the role of manicurist and pedicurist, esthetician and makeup artist (gave a lady a makeover just yesterday, in fact). Obviously, it is a field that has been very good to me. It's what I trained for back in High School, it's what helped pay my way through college, and it's what I fell back on when the IT field went bust a few years back (my degree is in Computer Science).

I've always prided myself on the fact that I can take a Plain Jane, and transform her into something stunning, or take a Joe Everyman, and transform him into God's gift to women. You'd be surprised what a day at the salon can do for someone's self-image! It's always great to run into someone like that and see the changes that come about from a total makeover!

As for my particular tools of the trade, I can't go into that (trade secret, dontcha know?), but be assured that I tend to use the best tools available to me; you get your money's worth and then some! As Continuing Education is mandatory in my field, I'm always on top of new trends and techniques in the field. In all modesty, I believe I'd be an asset to any salon in the Tulsa area!

In the event that I return to Tulsa, it will probably be within the next 2 years. A number of things on my personal agenda here in Biloxi that I'd have to fulfil before I leave,
some things of a personal nature, some of a professional nature. But it's something to shoot for!

Not sure I could perform a pedicure on some nasty customer's feet.

If and when I return, I'll make a special announcement here. More details to come over time.
