Jaynes, he's been discredited time and again. Most recently, of course, with the Duke players thing. Not sure who gives this man support anymore, what good does he do?

If this is the best the civil rights movement has left to offer, I'm afraid it is indeed dead.  I guess its a sign of equality when "their" leaders can be as inept and ineffective as "ours."

I can agree with you there, but I think someone like that can be discredited only so much before people stop reinvesting him with any more credibility. Then again, after his involement with the Tawana Brawley scandal in the 1980s, as well as the Crown Heights riot in 1991 and the 1995 riot at the Fashion Mart in Harlem, one would think that he'd crawl back under the rock he crawled out from under, but you'd be wrong.

$harpton has a brass set of family jewels.  He remains relevant because many black people think they need a rabble-rouser like himself to speak up for them.  There are many black people who are embarrased by this guy.

Unfortunately for them, he has little in the way of creds outside his own race.  To most white people, the guy is a petty extortionist.  I don't think he has any friends in the DNC, just acquaintances.

It's interesting that the DNC obviously ignores the likes of Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam (and rightly so), but that some in the DNC take Sharpton (and Jesse Jackson too, for that matter, and should a thread open about him, I will be pleased to contribute) as a serious player in Democratic politics. And as soon as the DNC ceases to take him as seriously as he takes himself, problem solved.

As for the Civil rights movement having better leadership, they must first look to their own communities, in grass roots fashion, rather than looking to uptown rabble rousers like that.

That Jack$on and $harpton have been very tepid with any sort of support for Obama is very telling.  Their egos are far too big to accept that the spotlight is shining on someone else who isn't such a polarizing figure in terms of race.

The NOI is revolutionary, whereas Sharpton and all are reformist.  Further, the NOI are anti-Christian, and the others work within the church.

Just goes to show that you don't have to have the endorsement of the likes of $harpton or Jack$on to be politically successful.
