i have a cheaper alternative, just leave them on the corner of 21st/Garnett every afternoon for a few weeks.  They will pick up what they need to learn.

The Tulsa City-County Library has some CDs or DVDs on learning Spanish.  The joy of it is that you can check them out to see which ones you like.  Office Depot usually has some for sale.

There's also some Spanish language instruction available free on iTunes in their podcast section.

Good luck!

May you live in interesting times.

I don't know of any strictly dvd or cd learning programs, but I like do the Destinos series. You learn from a soap-opera-style video series which you can watch for free on www.learner.org. Click "Free Video On Demand." You'll also need to buy the accompanying textbook, which is available on Amazon. Don't go for the expensive 2nd or alternate editions. The old text is good for learning at home and there are lots of used copies available for cheap. ¡Buena suerte!

I'd say the best way to do the job correctly would be to just to hire a Spanish language teacher for private lessons. it's not that expensive. It's tuff to learn a new language on your own like that. Spend the money for a teacher it's worth it in the long run. thanx, JMO.[:)]

There is a software program from Babylon that you can use on a trial basis that's free which I like.  Once its downloaded on your computer you can highlight a word or sentence that you are reading online.  Then you right click with your mouse ana a window pops up and will translate the highlighted words you want.  It will also say the words in spanish if you like to help reinforce it.  For the right person this method may be a good way to learn.

I'm not sure how long the trial last I used it for over a week before I purchased it.  Right now the purchase price of $71 is discounted 35%.  If you don't get an offer of the 35% discount just wait a while until you get a pop window that offers it when you turn on your computer.  It is possibly the free trial last a long time.  I didn't wait to see if and when it expired.

I use it a lot and really like it. It will translate words into a number of different languages, too.   The purchase also includes other features like a dictionary, thesaurus  and so on.

This last Friday I received a call from one of our famous call centers.   The entire message was is Spanish.  There was not a single word spoken in English.

I wonder if other posters are receiving such calls in Spanish.

I have a set of tutoring records but they are on 45's.

Guess I better get in the attic and check to see if I have a 45 player so I can join the crowd.

I have never received a telemarketing call in Spanish.

For some reason, of all the people on this forum, I would have pegged you to offer a recording of something on a 45.

KSS: Did you ever find the DVD or whatever? If you did - let the forum know which one and whether it is useful or not.

I know someone who is a native spanish-speaker who may offer tutoring if you want to go in that direction.

shadows: Weird. Maybe the telemarketing company hasn't heard that 20-grand hispanics have fled Tulsa. Or maybe they don't believe the reports?

One of the nine on the city council is Hispanic.  In the next election there is good odds that 2 or maybe 3 will be replacements for some of the nine.  Reason they have a cause and others have apathy.
