One reason we do have a lot of technical fabrication jobs has to do with three very good engineering schools all within 120 miles of Tulsa.  Just about every mechanical or structural engineer I come in contact with locally came from OSU, OU, or TU.

The shortage of qualified code welders and fitters who don't have bad personal or work habits is steadily raising the offering price on wages for those trades.
