In an attempt to bypass the big box this year, I bought wine for gifts at the Bodega, AND gift cards for a local spa.
Also, due to the storm and my electric range sucking big time, we bought a new dishwasher and range at Hahn Appliance.  Keep in mind I am a person that likes the anonymity of the "Big Box Browse" mainly because I can slither away unseen.    BUT, thanks to reading here I am seeing I need to change my ways and the way I spend $$$$.
There was definitely LESS STRESS shopping for appliances locally, not to mention the other gifts.  No lines, no parking lot crazy, no "duh" cashiers.  Much more pleasant!
And then topping that shopping off with a Ron's Burger...because I think I spent less!

Thanks Tulsa Now![:D]

Alcohol is a good gift for most of my friends as well. That is one of the reasons I can do most of my shopping for the holidays at Quik Trip.

I do need to buy this wife some gift card for a local spa (who would have thunk living with me would be stressful?).

Where did you buy yours?

I have done at last 50% of my shopping online this year.

1. Easier to research products (Ipod nano)
2. Better prices (necklace for wife for $250 that the cheapest I found local was for $380.  Same for  Ipod.  Books.  DVDs...)
3. Ease - I hate shopping, crowds, and mass hysteria.  Essentially, I hate Christmas.  Bah humbug!

I try to buy as much local as I can.  Not because I hate "globalization" but because I want to encourage Oklahoma's unique shops and suppliers.  I bought a ton of dip mixes, a candle, and a quilt for my parents from the made in Oklahoma store and make a point to get as many books as I can from Steve's Sundry (been failing at that lately I admit).  But in the end, I'm a lazy capitalist - so if it is easier and cheaper I'm awful tempted to just go to Amazon.com and click buy.

How much sour cream does it take to add to a "ton of dip mixes"?

Man, I got to party with you...I'll bring a "truckload of chips".

Power is nothing till you use it.

lol, funny thing... a "ton" of dip only cost $40. [:P]

I ordered many of the presents we will give from the Oklahoma Food Coop.  It was all of the ease of click and buy - people from other states don't believe me when I tell them about the online shopping cart interface.  Pick up is tomorrow - if something didn't come through, I'll still have a few days to cover.  I bought shirts, too, from Louis & Cluck at the Dwelling Spaces store.

What is Steve's Sundry?

do all of your shopping at Amazon.  Free shipping and no tax.

cannon_fodder

Amazon and I are good friends. Same with Overstock, Ebay, and a handful of other retailers.

For the men folk out there, you can get nice jewelry really cheap on Amazon.  With no mall space to pay for and the ability to really shop around for the same product, you can save 30% standard.  I have bought several pieces of jewelry for the woman and never been disappointed.

Michael, I thought you knew that QT doesn't sell alcohol, but beer flavored water.
