University of Tulsa Focus the Nation Event

Come be a part of the biggest national teach-in in US history!

Focus the Nation: Global Warming Solutions for America is a national 2-day event to raise awareness of what can be done to combat global warming. The University of Tulsa is hosting a 2-day Tulsa-area Focus the Nation event on Wednesday, January 30 and Thursday, January 31, 2008 on the campus of the University of Tulsa.

On Wednesday, January 30 a live, interactive webcast of “The 2% Solution” will be shown. Stephen Schneider, Hunter Lovins, and Van Jones will lead a discussion on global warming solutions during the webcast. Audiences across the country will also have the opportunity to voice their opinion on various topics by voting via their cell phones. After the screening of “The 2% Solution”, a brief presentation will be made concerning action steps the City of Tulsa has made toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

On Thursday, January 31 a session will be held where participants can come learn about their personal impact on the planet by participating in a short web quiz prior to presentations. Afterward, TU faculty will make a series of presentations on how global warming is viewed by various academic disciplines followed by students who will provide several personal action steps that can be taken to mitigate global warming. The session will conclude with the opportunity to meet people in the community working to affect change toward a local “2% Solution” and discussions on potential action will follow.

The 2-day event is co-sponsored by The University of Tulsa's National Energy-Environment Law and Policy Institute (NELPI), The University of Tulsa’s Earth Matters, The University of Tulsa’s Peace and Justice Fellowship, the Green Country Chapter of the Sierra Club, and Sustainable Green Country.

The Wednesday, January 30 showing of “The 2% Solution” will be held in Business Administration Hall (TU) Room 219 (on the southeast corner of 5th St. and Evanston) with doors opening at 6:30PM. The screening of “The 2% Solution” will start at 7PM.

The Thursday, January 31 session will be held at the TU Student Activities Center (in the middle of the Mayo Village Apartments on the southeast corner of 8th St. and Delaware) and will start at 7PM.
