I am seeing the Lovera's Italian foods in stores around here and I want to go try the REAL THING!  Has anyone been?  Any insight would be appreciated.  What did you order, how was the trip down, etc. Thanks!

Haven't been to Lovena's, mostly because we keep going to Krebs on Sunday, when it's closed.

But Pete's restaurant is excellent, and it does sell some Lovena's food there. My wife, who grew up in an Italian-strong town in southern Illinois, vouches that Pete's is very good Italian food.

I've never eaten at Lovera's (which a grocery, not a sit down place, if I recall correctly), but I have been to Pete's Place, Isle of Capri, and Giacomo's (the latter is actually in McAlester).

Pete's is the best of the bunch. In addition to your entree, you're fed huge portions of side items -- spaghetti and meatballs, ravioli, cheese, peppers, salad, and garlic bread. And one of the entrees is sausage from Lovera's.

A bit of Krebs trivia: Lovera's is near Electric Ave., which followed along the tracks of the Electric Railway (interurban) that linked McAlester to the mining areas of Krebs, Haileyville, and Hartshorne.

My father was born in Krebs. We have been there plenty of times.

Here is a site with a history of Lovera's...

If you go, bring me back some Caciocavallo cheese.
Power is nothing till you use it.

I tried Pete's about a month ago and wasn't impressed.   I thought it was quantity over quality.   They do have the brewery (Choc beer) on site, so it has that going for it.  [:)]

Lovera's is a nice store.  It's been a while since I've been there, might be worth a trip.  Good sausage.

Pete's place, the same family that owns that owns Roseanna's, also in Krebs.  Roseanna's is more of a lunch time, less expensive place.  Pete's is served family style, you order your dish, and large plates of other stuff comes with it.  Roseanna's is not, it's served just like any other restaurant.  I like Pete's Italian Sausage, Chicken Parmesan is pretty good at Roseanna's.

And then there's also Giacomo's in McAlester, or Isle of Capri near Pete's.  Those were mentioned before, I've never been to either.  Been to Pete's and Roseanna's more times than I could possibly count.

Lived in that area for several years.

OK< I'm thinking of taking a road trip there when I get back to Tulsa....

It's worth the trip.  I personally wouldn't go down there just to go to restaurants and stores, only because I've been there tons of times.  But for people that haven't been there very often, Krebs gets pretty good press.  And there are other things to do down that direction.  I trip down that direction all the time just for fun, mainly for state parks and the scenery.

Mmmmmmmmm, Krebs. Mmmmmmmmmmmm

Oh, wait. I can't eat that stuff any more. Drat.

Actually, I like the food at Rosannas and they are open for lunch.

Dinner is definitely Pete's. Petes  is really nice for groups because of the private rooms. Quite often the spaghetti is overcooked but the rest of the food is great and the spaghetti is just a sideline.

You can look at Pete's and tell that it used ro be a house that has been added on to many many times over the years. You can wander down many halls and look around.

They all have the same menu. All you can eat house  salad (vinegar and oil dressing) and spaghetti, cheese bread, peppers, and then you order your entree.

I've got a little bit of favoritism for Roseanna's.  Maybe because I've eaten there too often, and it's open when other aren't.

IMO, Roseanna's and Pete's are comparable as far as food quality.  It's just different serving styles, a few different choices on the menu, different atmospheres.  They're run by different parts of the same family, so they can't be terrible.  They'd never live it down.

Thanx 4 the advice, I may get down there in the next week or so.

All Right, so I made it down to Krebs this week! We ate at Roseanna's and it was gosh darn good cooking! Fried Ravioli, Garlic Bread, Chicken Parm and Lasagna. They had a peach crisp cheesecake that I am still reminiscing over.  Yum.

Then I spent about $100 @ Lovera's on cheese, sausage, etc...and bought some gifts too.  Oh yeah, and Mr. K ran inside Pete's to get a pack of "Miner's Light" brew.

***Side note...if you are lazy/spacial challenged like myself and rely on the Garmin to get anywhere out of the comfort zone, Pete's Place and Lovera's doesn't show up...Roseanna's shows a Macalester address that is wrong.  Type in "Krebs Korner" and it will get you there.[:P]
