Got news for you, there's people at the IRS and plenty of other departments with lawful access to all your sensitive information as well.

...which in time ends up on someone's laptop that ends up being liberated through a broken window.

Seems every bureaucracy that amasses sensitive data on the public makes the same promise it wont abuse/neglect it, and by now we should know better.  (Do you know how much information, say, the Okla DPS sells to anyone with the cash?) That even presidential candidates are so vulnerable speaks volumes.

I agree that this information was basic personal data, but I want to know more details.

Who was the contractor? Who are the people involved? Who hired them to work in the State department and how were they paid?

Why won't the Bush administration give out these details?

This thing begs more information and the American media don't seem to be asking any more questions.

Don't make such a big deal of it, because it's really not.  All three candidates got snooped.  My guess is this was a bored employee who had the new found power of being able to snoop passport files *yawn*.  Wow, date of birth, SSN, been to Malta, been to Indonesia *yawn*.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The CEO of a company whose employee is accused of improperly looking at the passport files of presidential candidates is a consultant to the Barack Obama campaign, a source said Saturday.

One potential out of 3 breaches...

Why do you think that the employee of the Obama consultant was looking at the records of John McCain?
Power is nothing till you use it.

FOTD

No justification. Besides, his passport file is not what is important with his privacy. You can't disclose psychiatric records through a passport file. Remember Elsberg?

Boredom.  What else can you gain other than SSN, DOB, residence, and places travelled.  Virtually useless information unless a candidate says they were in Saigon at a certain time in the past and it turns out they were in Canada.

Perhaps someone snooped Obama three times trying to see if he'd traveled to any countries where someone could try and proove a link to Muslim extremists.

I like the title of this thread. "Passport File Deciminated!"

It screams IDIOT.  Lets ya know what we're dealing with when confronting emotionally volatile liberals!

I can just see FOTARD running around in circles with his hands on his head!  [}:)]
