Swake, if you like him I can not disagree with you.  All I can base it on is the few Kansas fans that I know and they were not huge fans.  Not calling for heads or anything, just not thrilled.  I did not mean to imply he was on the hot seat.

As far as wealth goes, Kavisto is a small fish in the market ($250mil) and Anschutz (who is worth 2x Pickens) hasn't donated the same kind of money Pickens has.  I didn't find any donations over $5 million, let alone over $10 mil, 25 mil, 50, 100, or $150,000,000.00.  Pickens is nearing $250,000,000 this decade to OSU and mostly to athletics.  Surely if he REALLY wanted to try and fund anything they could want, he could.

As an interesting aside - athletic budgets:
http://ope.ed.gov/athletics/search.asp
These numbers account for infrastructure oddly, so assume they do not include it (some bond, some lease back, some don't count as part of the athletic budget, etc).

Athletic Expenses Total (FB/BB), Athletic Revenue Total (FF/BB)

Oklahoma State - $42mil (4mil, 9.8mil), Rev. $46.6mil (10mil, 20mil).

Kansas - $58mil (6mil, 9.8mil), Rev. $65mil (13mil, 11mil).

Kansas spends a TON on basketball compared to anyone but also brings in a ton.  Both spend marginally on football but OSU shows a good return on that.  The "big dogs" spend $20mil+ on football and bring in $50mil plus.  My god.

Among true KU people there is no such thing as "not a huge fan", it doesn't exist. KU people make OU fans look mild.

Oh no, this guy has a mural of Allen Fieldhouse on the back wall of his garage over layed with a giant JayHawk.  I meant he was not a huge fan of Bill Self.  He did not hate him or call for heads, just not thrilled.

Ok, that's more like it.

Anyone think Self is worth $3.6mm to T. Boone?  That would make him the highest paid coach in college bball.

Tuesday, Self was saying he wasn't a candidate for OSU.  This morning's Tulsa World quotes Self's attorney as saying "never say never".

In case anyone believes Bill Self saying he's happy at KU means he wouldn't take a look at something else-

From Wiki (sorry, writing on the fly):

"Self said that he was happy at Illinois [1]and had no plans to leave. Despite these statements, Self left for Kansas just a few days later. [2]"

There were two stories devoted to Self in the sports section this morning.  It's big news that he got the Jayhawks to the Final 4, but I doubt there would have been near as much interest if there weren't a vacancy out in Stillwater.

I'd be willing to bet T. Boone has Self's attorney in his rolodex. [;)]

Other than the opportunity to build the program at his alma matter and a big pay raise, I don't see any benefits to him leaving KU for OSU.  He's had a great run there, he's coaching his own recruits.  Eddie Sutton had OSU for 16 years and never won a national championship.  I just don't think OSU is ever going to win it in this day and age, no matter who the coach is.  KU can though.

I doubt he makes the jump.  If he did, I'd think him more likely to do it if KU wins the NCAA.  If they lose in the semis or the final, he won't leave like he did Illinois.

Self said he was happy at ORU and was not a candidate for Tulsa.  Than he was happy at Tulsa and had no plans to look for a job elsewhere.  As pointed out, he was happy at Illinois too...

If nothing else, refusing to say "NO" gives him leverage at Kan$a$.

Fair a$$e$ment.  No matter what, he'll be making more than $1.3mm next year, I'd gue$$.

Mkay, so Bill Self does win the NCAA tournament with KU, now what?

Do you take the rumored $4mm plus $6mm love from T. Boone?

This much is telling about his experience at KU:

"Self, 45, hinted Sunday about the frustration of dealing with a tradition-rich school with such high expectations. He has won four straight Big 12 titles and is 141-32 at Kansas, but he lost in the first round of the NCAAs in 2005 and 2006 and was expected to make the Final Four this year.

"If you follow us closely, we've won just about as much as any coach won at Kansas," Self said. "But those two first-round losses definitely put a negative stigma to us."

So do you stay put and deal with the high pressure to keep KU at such a high level or go back to OSU where the expectations would assumed to be lower, and stroke a paycheck for the next 20 years?  T. Boone is going to want a return on his investment, so I think Self gets pressure either place, but OSU makes it worth it.

This is a Bill T. Boone Pickens doesn't mind paying.
It appears he's pretty Self-absorbed.

Well, since we know for sure that Self is staying Lawrence who is the next viable candidate? I liked how Self said money was never discussed. Holder must not have been wanting him that bad to throw him large sums of money to lure him.

The news is saying Billy Gillespie. Anyone buying that? I'm sure the UK fans wouldn't mind if he went since they had an up and down year.
