Power surges?

Has anyone else experienced power surges today?  I live near I-44 and Lewis, and I've had 5 or 6 power surges today.  Two of them were bad enough to cause my computer to shut down, and all of them made the lights flicker and all my clocks are now flashing.

It's the wind. If it jerks the power lines around hard enough, or an outage is caused elsewhere, you get the kinda stuff.

Does it always do it when it gets windy?  I've lived in several cities and towns around the south and midwest, and I've noticed the power flickers or goes out here far more often than anywhere else that I've lived.  I would think the wind might have something to do with it, but I lived in Kansas City, which is in tornado country and is quite windy, and I don't remember the power ever going out other than the ice storm of 2002.

It's already happened to me over 15 times this evening.  AEP is becoming my worst enemy.  They ask us to foot the bill on what they lost in the ice storms, but they don't have the foresight to trim trees back far enough from lines and transformers to account for the fact that we live in the middle of the country, where the wind blows.

The Corporation Commission, yet again, will be receiving a nastygram about AEP from me.

That's why they made those power surge strips that need to be used for computers and other electronic gear.

Yup, I have one sitting on my desk.  Unfortunately, I don't have one of those continuous power supplies.  At least my laptop doesn't reboot when the lights flicker.

And being a network tech and computer geek, of all people I know this.

Doesn't make what's happening right.  My stuff is protected, one way or the other.  Point is, we should have to be paying 150 dollars for the possibility of having power.  We should have it when it's windy.  Other acts of higher powers that are more severe I can live with.

Above ground lines are a good idea when youre a multi-billion dollar corporation realizing that the cost difference comes out of your record profits, and you arent re-investing enough in your infrastructure to maintain reliable service.

The system will continue to crumble, and we'll keep getting more and more 5-year "adjustments" to patch it together until we get some Corporation Commissioners that grow tired of dumping spoiled food out of their refrigerators.

my grandparents live I44 and Lewis (53rd and Birmingham to be exact) and when they moved in the neighbors told them about how the power goes out and its only in their section of the neighborhood. Do you happen to live around there??

Not me. I live near 31st and Harvard.  
Other probs I'm hearing:
A lady I work with (along with a few of her neighbors) had to replace all of her appliances due to power surges a couple of months ago and she is still having problems with the electricity dropping out.  She lives in the Brookside area.  Also, my Admin Assistant (lives in Sand Springs)  says she keeps losing power when the wind is blowing hard.

I used too.  Moved from the corner of SW corner B-Place and 51st (house reciently gone for I-44 work)and we used to have regular problems in the area.
