I am tired of driving to Dallas and St. Louis to see good bands play. ( However, Radiohead at the Riverport in St. Louis was a phenomenal show)

+1. I didn't get to see the show in STL but I did catch them in Dallas and it was amazing.

Maybe once these shows fill the arena on a regular basis, shows that don't have such a solid demographic fit will start to book as well.

By the way:

Top grossing acts of 2007
1. The Police ($131.9m)
2. Kenny Chesney ($71.1m)
3. Justin Timberlake ($70.6m)
4. Celine Dion ($65.3m)
5. Van Halen ($56.7m)
6. Tim McGraw and Faith Hill ($52.3m)
7. Rod Stewart ($49.0m)
8. Genesis ($47.6m)
9. Josh Groban ($43.0m)
10. Rascal Flatts ($41.5m)

Draw your own conclusions about what acts the BOk Center "should" be booking.  We want good shows, but we also want the thing to be profitable, right?

HOLY ****.  THE POLICE damn near doubled Kenny Chesney in 2nd place? WOW!! That is something I would have never guessed.  I agree some diff acts at the BOK would be nice...then again between Rascall Flatts, Celine Dion, Niel Diamond, and Carrie Underwood, who says thats not diversity!!!

Why, you say the building looks like a 'giant roll of duct tape' anyway.

Pollstar Top 50 in ticket sales for the week.  This is not revenue, just ticket sales and serves as a snap shot (not touring or tickets not on sale = not on the list). I think in many ways it is a more important measure (butts in seats mean more to the venue than the price of the ticket) but like any other measure has it's flaws (not touring!).

Some make sense, others don't (new kids?).  But I'd go see Coldplay, Madonna, STP, Dave, Peal Jam, Radiohead, Tom Petty, Foo Fighters, Rage, NIN, or REM for sure.  BUT, the acts we have are still popular even though not all are currently selling tickets (American Idol will be huge, Rascall Flatts and Celion Dion - but tickets not on sale yet).

I still stand by my notion of ignoring my demographic (18-50 year old non-country fans) and reiterate that the acts they have landed should sell well.

Anyway, another interesting list:

What does one quote have to do with the other? The building does look like a giant roll of duct tape, but that does not mean that I would not attend a show there if they would diversify and book some acts other than country. There ARE other types of music.

All of Dylan's songs sound great- when they are sung by someone other than him.  Great poet and songwriter, always sounds like a demo-track musician to me.  Sorry to blaspheme, but he's just never really appealed to me enough to go see him.  I like plenty of others from his era and genre, just never got the Bob.

Hate to say "I told you so" to so many who thought this arena would bring in the Stones, Clapton, et. al.

Having an 18,000 seat arena is useless in attracting a-list entertainment (ostensibly of the non-country variety) if you don't have the demographic and pops that a promoter is looking for.

I wouldn't go so far as to say what's been booked at BOK is total crap, but we aren't going to get near as many acts who will play STL, DFW, NYC, etc. if it comes down to choosing OKC or TUL, unless OKC is already booked with a sporting event or another show.  Even then, they might move it forward or back a day or book on the back side of the tour.
