Great run and congrats on the 2nd place age group.

How were your splits?

Biggest danger in racing is going out too fast. It's so easy to do. Adrenaline does wonders.

Yes, but don't forget all the other runners are also running on adrenaline. The 5K race is so short I found you pretty much have to run the whole thing hot & at full throttle, no time to lighten up on the throttle. The race is over too quickly for that. If you slow down a bit you won't win diddley-doo.

Well it's very easy to smoke that first kilometer and end up running positive splits. 5Ks are brutal...fun...but brutal.

Win? No way. I've placed in the Clydesdale group (200-214 lbs) in a few races...but my age group 40-44...forget about it. Pretty competitive and fast runners in Tulsa. Great racing town.

I agree a 5K is hard running if you want to win any medal, I did it in 25:33 for my age group 50-54. That is why more people signed up for the 10 mile run instead. I felt I started off too fast in the 5K and backed off a bit and some runners passed me but I figured I'd re-pass them latter during the last mile but they were too far ahead by that time. Big Mistake right there. I ran fast & hot the last mile but I only paseed two girls during that last mile and they came in 3 seconds and 6 seconds behind my time. Tulsa has alot of fast runners. When I was last there I parked at the south lot near the QT store on Riverside Drive, I was running north on the trail at a bit under a 9.0 pace and some thin girl  flew by me as if I was standing still she must of had rockets on her shoes, I'd guess she was running a 6.5 pace or something. Tulsa's RiverSide Trails have alot of good runners. The dogs there can be pesky though.

I'm looking to sign up for another race in August. There is a 5-mile "Pig Run" race at the Ohio State fair.[8D]

Sauer, just think how much better your time would have been in a pair of $150 pair of NB's.

Seriously, great job!

Thanks, but I don't want to run a race in fancy shoes that are not well broken in. I did the 5K in my old running shoes held together with duct tape. I keep hearing Tulsa is a city of runners, do they have alot of races there for runners? We are having 3 races coming up soon, on July 25th at 7pm is the 5K pig run the top 50 runners get a golden mug, (no age class prizes)The top 3 male/female get a medal. Then on Saturday July 26th at 7pm is the Beer-a-thon 5K race with the same prizes as the Pig Run and in August there is a 5K Hilliard Run the top 30 get medals. August 28th is the 13.1 mile half marathon race in Hilliard, Ohio. I need to work on my speed to run the 13.1 race or I won't win diddley should I enter. There is a 15 mile run in mid-August. In October is the world famous Columbus Marathon a 26.2 mile run.. We have alot of running events.[:)]

I don't know for certain, seems like there's a 5K just about every month to 6 weeks around here plus the obvious one- Tulsa Run.

My knees don't allow running anymore.  I either walk, bike, or row these days.

Beer-a-thon??? Is that new? I don't remember hearing about it when I lived there or I might have participated!
I used to do first aid at OSU games and other community events in Columbus and the marathon was one of them that I didn't do that I wish that I would have done.

Yes, the listing of some of the upcoming races can be seen at www.ultrafit-usa.com The beer 5K and the pig race 5K race are back to back. One is on Friday the other is on Saturday. They had a blue flyer at the Heritage Trail head about a 5K Hilliard Run I think it is Aug. 1st. I'm intrested in the Half-Marathon that's a challange for me, but I need to get my speed up. In the 10 mile Pancake Run on July 6th some of the top dog runners did that race in 1:05, a stunning good pace. The posted race times were very impressive. Had I run that race my time would of been around 1:30 very poor time.

That's great, But, I keep hearing that Tulsa is a runners town. Where do they post stuff about the races? When I'm at the RiverSide Trail I have not seen any flyers about upcoming race events... (I do know about the famous Tulsa Run and the Jingle Bell Run)- Here in Ohio at our trail heads/parking areas you can find all sorts of flyers and info about upcoming races and where to sign up and things like that.
