Steak N Shake, 9521 N. Owasso Expressway, posted signs on its doors Wednesday night informing customers of the closing. Employees were told where they could pick up their final checks and where they might be relocated at another Steak N Shake.

The chain has four other restaurants in Oklahoma - one in Tulsa, Broken Arrow, Edmond and Midwest City.

Chelsea Harkins, Owasso economic development director, said she had known for some time the restaurant would be closing. She also said there are several prospects for the location.

Reastaurants seem to be opening and closing in Owasso as fast as they do along 71st in Tulsa!

Owasso got a little 'big for it's britches' and the infrastructure could not keep up.  Now they're paying for it a little bit with these closings.

Reading my tea leaves, I worry the same thing is fixing to happen down in Jenks.  High gas is cutting into retail and hospitality industries.  Won't be a lack of infrastructure down in Jenks, just over-built too quickly.

Today's WSJ had an article about the distress appearing in new Lifestyle centers.

I agree with the infrastructure part, Too much traffic on one overpass connecting strip centers joined at odd angles.

Steak and Shake ain't so great anyway.

I thought the shake was excellent.

The steak, not so. It still had markings from where the jockey had whipped it.

Curious about the S & S business model.  How many $6 meals do you need to sell to turn a profit and afford the rent factor?  Their table turns are a lot slower than "fast food" burgers, and unless I've just not noticed, they don't do drive through.

I stopped there twice.  The first time, my burger was overcooked and the fries were cold and hard.  The second time, I went in for breakfast.  My kids and I sat at a table looking through the menu, only to be told the store didn't actually serve breakfast.  We left.  I'd never go back.

Lousy food, lousy service.  I wonder why they went out of business?

Surprisingly, we ate at a S/S in Tennessee and it was very good.

I guess I did.  I never paid close enough attention when I'd drive by the one in Owasso, and I've parked on the north side of the building when I've gone to the one on Memorial and never noticed a drive through there.

Don't buy the $3 shake.  It's not worth it.  Turns into a $20 tab for two.

Yes that restaurant chain has been having trouble the past two years and they are closing stores all over the country and cutting back on hours, some are no longer open 24 hours. The companies stock is down. The restaurant chain needs a make over. The prices are far too high, and the French Fries are skinny and taste bad. The shakes are over priced. I think the chain is headquartered in Indianapolis.[xx(]
