I'm glad somebody's doing it. It's better than having those folks out panhandling around downtown. I'd say that's a valuable community service. First off, I am not a Taylor supporter by any stretch of the imagination but correct me if I am wrong....She has no control over the utility rate increases, correct? that is done by the Corporation Commission?

Also, these homeless people you talk about...majority of them don't want to work for a living, they would rather sit on the corner and ask for handouts.  These people had a choice in life at somepoint just like each one of us had, and they chose the wrong path.  Why blame kathy taylor? Should she open up the doors to her house and take in all these homeless people that screwed their lives up themselves? I don't think so.  Once again, life is all about decisions.  Why should I help out some crack head who dropped out of the 10th grade back in 1985 because he was too cool to go to school, do his homework, and make good grades? I shouldnt.

Now for the person working at semgroup who is going to lose his job and fall on rough times, definitely help them out.  But these people on welfare, who are having kids every 9 months, talking on cell phones and living off the govt....**** EM.  I don't feel sorry in the least for those types of people, except for their kids, they can't help they have *** hats for parents who don't give a damn about anyone but themselves.

I first thought it was cool of the carpenter's union to hire homeless people. It gives then something to do, a honest chance to make some money, etc.

Then I began to think...maybe they didn't hire them. Maybe some union carpenters are homeless...or maybe some union workers just go to the kitchens and get some free breakfast and lunch.

...and if they are trying to get people to pay attention to their message and put pressure on the business to use union workers next time, are workers dressed in clothes that have clearly been slept in outdoors the image the union wants to portray?

I have always supported unions. I believe strongly that workers should have the right to hire someone to represent them in their job...a workingman's attorney, on retainer to make sure they are treated fairly. I try to respect picket lines and generally feel that the top few make much of the money and the workers often too little (there are exceptions, of course).

But seeing homeless people working the line, chanting songs as loud as they can during lunch for a cause they may not even know, seems odd. It seems so mercenary and gambles an image that I wouldn't.

I always felt that union workers were a little bit better in their craft than non-union workers. I still do. But now I question the decisions of some of the union management.
