I like that they pay close attention to politics and offer an alternative to Lortonworld.

I don't like that neither seems to ever enunciate an alternative vision for Tulsa.  Medlock particularly seems to be on board with the "downtown=71st and memorial" crowd.

Edit: I wasn't clear enough.  All I ever hear from their respective blogs is "no."  Developments that occur that they don't oppose are met with silence.  In messageboard parlance, they're more like "gloomers" than "sunshine pumpers."

I'll go ahead and retract this.  The whole thread is silly--shouldn't have bit.  Agree or disagree, Bates add to the civic discussion in a civil, intelligent fashion.

I don't think you were around for the Delgiorno days.  Anyone who got involved with that asshat is sketchy.  That was often the exact opposite of civil, honest discussion.

Yeah, I was, and I'm glad he's gone.  That's where my initial assessment came from.  But it's not really grounded in the present though, and I made a mistake by using past associations in the current discussion.

While on the city payroll, she did her best to make Tulsa's poor and struggling middle class even POORER with a new, thirteen year sales tax that will vacumn $100,000,000's from Tulsa taxpayers.

And I guess that they were "stupid" enough to vote in the affirmative for it. [;)]

Or, are you saying the Karen Keith has superpowers that hypnotized people into voting for it?

What new taxes is she planning if she gets elected County Commissioner?

Whatever they are, if they improve the county and are voted for in the affirmative by the people, then I suppose I will pay them.

The same people who craft effective advertising campaigns to sell people cars, vacations, toothpaste, etc., also apply their creative talents to SELLING NEW TAXES.

The Vote Yes organization, because their is NO LIMIT on a ballot initiative, spent over $1,000,000 to promote the tax.

The vote NO Dis-Organization raised and spent about $15,000.

That is about as unbalanced contest as you could have.

Their cunning message back in 2003, coming out two years of bad economy in Tulsa due to the dot.com and telecom bust which drained 30,000 good paying jobs out of Tulsa, was:

It's All About Jobs.

And, they used the Voter Bait of "Boeing is coming to Town" to gull the voters into approving the tax.

The county election board said it passed by 60%.

Maybe it did.

Maybe.

Where can we read your new stuff?

I write a 400 word article on environmental stuff for the Tulsa County News. It is a west Tulsa County paper that comes out on Wednesdays.

400 words is the hard part. When you don't know what you are talking about it is hard to know when to stop.

Recycle:

Please keep publishing those necessary environmental stories to educate west Tulsa Trailer Trash like RWarn.

Those toothless, clueless hillbillies married to their sister need some educatin' to stop dumpin' their yard trash just across the county line in Creek County.

Now, now, there's no trash in my trailer. [:D]

Actually, I recycle.

And use compact fluorescent bulbs.

And use Energy Star appliances.

And don't use pesticides.

And get 90 percent of my electricity from solar panels.

So RecycleMichael doesn't need to preach to me. I'm in his choir. [^]

Sorry to pick on you, RWarn.

You and Randi Miller are the only two personalities that I even know who live in icky "West" Tulsa.

I'm in Mid-town myself.

Going to dart over to Utica Square Shopping Center for a spot of lunch.

Then, swing by F&M Bank to pick up this month's Trust Fund distribution.

Finally, back home for an afternoon nap in the solarium before heading to the S.H.C.C.

Busy day ahead.

So are you saying that the "poor and stuggling middle class" have only themselves to blame for passing the vote? I thought it was Karen Keith...

Karen Keith, Bill LaFortune, and Bob Dick were the primary public figure promoters of the tax. The city council endorsed it.

Of course, they had a $1,000,000 advertising campaign to help sway voters.

And, the Lorton's World "news" coverage and their editorial board "Echo Chamber".

And, Channel 862 getting $10,000's in TV ads just MAYBE skewed their Vision 2025 coverage.

Remember when dear old Channel 8 decided to run re-runs of "Cheers" instead of re-broadcasting AS PROMISED the Vision 2025 debate between LaFortune-Keith on the Vote YES side, and Bates-Hewgley on the Vote NO side.

Formatting problems on Election Eve?

Real Reason:  Bates-Hewgley wiped the floor with Mayor MisFortunate-KKKeith during the Fox 23 debate, and the Vote YES people did NOT want it re-broadcast.

Am I still boycotting Channel 8?

Yes, but ONLY until January 2017 when the Vision 2025 tax expires.

I don't want anyone to think I'd hold a grudge forever....ONLY until 2017.

Oh, did I mention that Cox Cable donated FREE advertising time to the Vote Yes Infomercials?

And, the MetroTulsaChamberPots LOVED Vision 2025.  Recycling our $2 million in lodging tax fees to help promote TAX increases, ummmh, really Economic Development.

The companies that made contributions ended up getting large contracts from the Vision 2025 tax gravy train.

Manhattan/Rooneys and FlintCo made sizeable contributions, and received a $200,000,000 taxpayer provided honey pot.

Aren't they the REAL winners?

Always?

And armed with all of this amazing information, people still voted in the affirmative. With such a compelling case, you should've easily raised more than $15,000. Am I right?

Our Banana Republic has a rigged system, which makes me feel just a tiny bit used.

There are NO CONTRIBUTION LIMITS on how much can be raised on "ballot issues", such as proposed tax increases.

The promoters of the tax are coincidentally often the beneficiaries of the proposed tax.

How HANDY!

The Rooney Family or the Flint Family investing $25,000 each to promote a new tax, and in return given a sole-sourced contract ultimately worth $200,000,000 is a total perversion of fair and open government OF THE PEOPLE,BY THE PEOPLE, and FOR THE PEOPLE.

Here in our Banana Republic of Tulsa, it is Government OF THE OLIGARCHY, BUY THE OLIGARCHY, and soley FOR THE OLIGARCHY.

And, those who've been in control the past 50 years like things just the way they are.....

Get the picture?

Karen Keith's promotion of a new, billion dollar regressive Sales Tax is still VERY relevant.

She was one of the principal shilling political mouthpieces promoting Vision 2025 tax now wants another Goobermint job.

Dirty Bob Dick and Mayor MisFortunate have both been retired from local politics, having used up any moral authority to be our leaders.

She wants to become Tulsa County Commissioner.

Watching over the County Budget.

The Fairgrounds budget.

The Jail budget.

Wonderful tax honeypots for certain connected contractors, vendors, and their cronies.

The Tulsa County Ring.

Parmele?  Bacon?  Young?  Alter?  Flint?  Murphy?

YES, The Vote is over, but the Vision 2025  extra 6/10 sales tax unfortunately isn't OVER.

How many more years to go?

Ends January 2017?

It's Temporary, right?

We'll see......in just EIGHT more years.
