I bet he will pick a non-politician.

My guess is Meg Whitman. She is young (52), seen as bi-partisan, and was CEO of E-bay during it's growth.

If he doesn't pick her, she is going to run for Governor of California in 2010.
Power is nothing till you use it.

Going nonpolitcal is an interesting theory (and he'd get a woman on the GOP ticket -- not an inconsiderable feat) but I think he's going to try to put a state in play, or at least keep one competitive. So my money's on Charlie Crist of FLA.

McCain will make his announcement on August 29th.

That is the day after Obama gives his acceptance speech. McCain is trying to limit the bounce the convention gives a candidate.

It is also McCain's 72nd birthday.

Day after Denver....minor correction. The Obamafest is on the 28th. Dylan's the 27th....

I guess it doesn't matter anyway.

AP correctly calls Joe Lieberman a PRICK

An AP story on possible vice presidential choices referred to him as "Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, the Democratic vice presidential prick in 2000 who now is an independent."

At least we can have a good laugh about it; the term is rather mild. Liar-man is one of the worst, most evil, lying, hypocrites on the planet- and he has a lot of competition.

That says a lot about the Democrat party.  Lieberman decides to follow his personal convictions and they cannibalized him for not toeing the party line on foreign policy.

How does following his own convictions make him a liar?

He is speaking at the republican convention.

I'd say Lieberman has left the democratic party.

Not until after his party threw him under the bus in '06.

I'd leave too if I were him.

This would be a bold move by McCain, it's his best chance to recruit independents who don't have war issues.  Biggest liability is the anti-war crowd wouldn't dream of voting for this ticket.

It doesn't.  But it doesn't make him a Democrat, either.

There's following your own convictions and then there's carrying water for the other side.  It's party politics:  members of both sides of the aisle have to toe certain lines to keep their affiliation.  Lieberman has not only been stepping over those lines, but he's been leaping over them with gusto, yelling "nanny nanny boo boo" back at his erstwhile colleagues.  It's embarrassing.

I mean, let's be honest.  In an election season, how can you stand on the stage with the Republican nominee and publicly criticize the Democratic nominee -- over and over and over -- and still hope to remain a Democrat?  There may be political reasons to keep him in the caucus, but from this rank-and-file Dem's POV, Lieberman needs to be taken to the curb, ASAP.

McCain would be pretty stupid to pick Lieberman as his running mate. Lieberman is pro-choice, which would alienate the GOP's Christianists, big-time.

The Democrats took him to the curb in '06.  This is what they get for turning their backs on a colleague who had a difference of opinion on the WOT.

Very few in the Democrat party came out against the war until it became expedient in the '04 election.  "Let's see, how will we be different than the GOP this time?  I know let's be against the war because most liberals are against the war".

Lieberman never ran for cover, nor apologized.  That took a lot more balls than:

"I was before it before I was against it"

or

"Bush lied"

Busheviks did lie....and Liebermann was their Israeli sock puppy on the other side of the aisle.

Obama was never for it.....get it?

The devil worshippers are hoping it is the Repiglican in shadow Lie-berman so Rush can spew it out his arse.....

Obama, like so many votes he avoided AFTER being elected to the Senate, is not on official record as being for or against it.  He's a smart guy alright, doesn't leave much of a paper trail for an aspiring POTUS.

Biden is such an expert on foreign policy, he voted for Iraq then said:

"I was for it before I was against it, Bush lied".

Biden as a running mate?  Big mistake, he will get crucified, Biden is all over the place on foreign policy initiatives.
