Not exactly accurate. He had a tv monitor mounted in front of the camera he was reading from.  Not the same as TOTUS, but still using a crutch.

I just saw the coverage.

I am so wrong.

He also had a huge live screen at the back of the room that the was getting answers to questions on.  O'Riley is yucking it up.

If he had all of those tools why was he so lost?

I had such high hopes.

All of the RIGHT WING blogs are going crazy.  I'm watching the first presidential news conference without the TOTUS, and it's strange.  Under pressure from the media he's going commando and I feel for him.

I've also noticed something else interesting as a pattern.  When President Obama reverses his position on something he simply sites "because it's the right thing to do" as a reason.  Sounds great.  I love multi-purpose catch phrases.  I wish he had the advantage of the TOTUS tonight, but hearing him um and uh, and search for words and ideas makes him more human.  I respect that. It was so very brave. I felt sorry for Axelrod biting his knuckles on the 4th row to the left.  They need to keep him off camera.  It's like Toto barking at the wizard.

Over the past 60 days many feared that President Obama was going to be some charismatic socialist, a pied piper that would lead an ignorant masses down a road to Socialism using only his cult of personality.  Tonight we saw the man.

I think I like this president.  Why?  Because it's the right thing to do.

Now that the vail is gone, no more crutch, no more cigarette, no more Teleprompter.

I look forward to great things.

I'm not sure this is the path to recovery?

Why not just let us read the screen?

I noticed some of the reporters were.

Would this violate DC's Digital Billboard Ordinance?

Why Does Obama's Teleprompter Hate America?
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bob-cesca/why-does-obamas-telepromp_b_179288.html

"In the past couple of weeks, the teleprompter attack has gone full-blown viral among far-right tea baggers and bloggers (who, by the way, still haven't "gone Galt" as promised). Michelle Malkin, for example, posted a series of terrifically unfunny photoshopped images of the president and his teleprompters. Drudge ballyhooed a hilarious blog written by -- get this -- the president's teleprompter. And random members of broader wingnuttia have taken to calling the president "TOTUS" (Teleprompter of the United States).
So funny! I tell you what, here's more fuel for the far-right bloggers. A gift from me to them. President Obama, it turns out, needs a pen -- a PEN! -- in order to write words on paper and to sign his name. Zing! Pow! Time to work up some awesome Obama's Pen photoshops. In Pen We Trust! Barack HusseINK Obama! Sharpie of the United States -- or "SOTUS."

But okay, I get it. The claim from the far-right is that, without his teleprompter, President Obama is a dumb stupid. Yes, far-right Bush dead-enders are equating verbal performance with intelligence.

Say what you will about his politics, but no one with any degree of honesty can claim with a straight face that President Obama isn't one of the smartest presidents of the last 50-plus years."

Gaspar

I don't think President Obama is dumb or stupid, on the contrary, I think he's brilliant.  I don't necessarily agree with most of his politics, but I never doubt his intelligence.

His reliance on the TOTUS is simply part of his method.  He performs far better with it than without it, and there is no shame in acknowledging that.  Many of us have a hard time putting our thoughts into words, and if technological aids such as the TOTUS make life easier for the President, than I can support that.

My father-in-law had a hip replacement last year, he experiences no pain, but he walks with a cane because the muscles are weak, and without his cane his gate seems labored or off balance to others.  He would rather use the cane than have people question his sobriety.  There is no shame in that.

The secret service has even taken special measures to ensure that the "technological package" (not TOTUS, actually code named "The Binky") arrives to all of the necessary meetings with The President (code name "Renegade").  It may be a bit offsetting to some foreign dignitaries but they will get used to it.  It does not change his policies whether he speaks like a Greek orator, or UM's and UH's like a teenager.  I would rather him sound good and represent the nation well, so I prefer that he use all of the tools at his disposal.

Geeb! Oh

If ridiculing and laughing at this Prez is all the Wingnutians can do, BO will be delt for 8 years.

So, keep it up!

The Q&A and the Town Hall meeting this morning in France was a bit painful, but all and all I think he did a good job of representing our position.  A lot of "um and uh" and no real answers to any questions (just like most politicians), and at one point he almost forgot Sarkozy's name, but "uh'ed" his way to it.

The most uncomfortable part was when he had a serious long pregnant pause after a reporter asked him about discussions with Russia concerning the missile defense bases to be built in Europe.  While he was seeking his words, the camera panned in on Hillary in the front row.  She was smirking at his difficulty, and as she spotted the camera, she quickly changed her expression.  That made me a bit angry.  I don't care who she thinks she is, she serves our President now!

Besides being nervous and out of place (one can imagine), I think he did a relatively good job of not saying anything regrettable.  It was obvious he is exhausted, but he held it together very well.

Incidentally, epic FAIL Obama in trying to upstage Cheney's speech. Obama brought a knife to a gunfight.  :D
Don't believe me? Visit the blue blogs and see how they are reduced to b*tching about Cheney's draft deferments to cover for Obama (of course ignoring that Obama never served a day in the military and that Biden had just as many) or name calling.

Bwahahahahahaha. "[O]bama 's speech this morning blew Cheney 's away" (FIFY). I really liked that Sec. of Defense William Gates comment (and he had TOTUS). As for Cheney, here he is lacing into the plan, or lack thereof, for closing Gitmo:

As a side note, since his own Director of National Intelligence has stated that EIT saved lives, I wonder how many American lives Obama is willing to sacrifice in order to uphold his opinion as to American core values?
