I seen in the Newspaper  that Tulsa's mayor has been doing alot of jogging she runs on the RiverSide Trail now & then according to the article in the Tulsa World. Anyhow, does anyone know why it's taking them so long to build that new jogging trail? I thought it was all to be done by the end of summer. Section one from 15th street to 41st street was to be done by Spring and section two from 41st to 71st street was to be done by summer and then section three 71st street to 101st street by the fall. They seem to be working on a tennis court or something at one section of the trail. I wish they would just lay down the pavement so it can be opened up for runners. I think it would be just as well to make one wide trail instead of two seprate trails, it would be cheaper and faster to build. (The city of Omaha builds trails real fast). "T" Towne needs to get moving before winter sets in. I hope it will all be done by 2009.

That was never the timetable.  They're basically on track, time-wise.

Everything North of 31st is open.

Yeah, I thought it was two years to get it done.

Other places get it done faster but they are having to redo a lot of drainage and they are also doing a very sturdy path that will last decades. As state before, they are on section 3 and sections 1 and 2 are already open. Likely the current section (31st to roughly 51st) will open when the new park does around January.

As nice as the improvements are... its worth the wait regardless.

They arent simply "laying down pavement" either, like they did before. There is now new landscaping, plantings and flowers, new trees, lighting, benches, stonework, new bridges, etc.

Plus who cares if it would be cheaper and faster? Kaiser is paying for most of it, not the city of Omaha, so let it go lol.

One wide trail hasn't necessarily improved pedestrian flow along the river.

Now, groups of walkers and joggers can fan out five or six wide, people can let their dogs out on a longer leash, and parents can ride abreast of their four kids on little bikes.

Take the time and do it right.

Still plenty of trails available for running. Just park at 71st Street and go south.

sauer doesn't live in Tulsa so he can't park at 71st and run. He just likes to lurk here and point out the flaws in our jogging trails and lack of Wal*Marts.

You did not just say that about Tulsa, right?

I'm in Tulsa alot, and I have family in Dallas, I like to spend a day or two in Tulsa, (sometimes I'm in Tulsa for business). When I'm in "T" Towne I like to run the RiverSide Trails. I normally like to park at 101st street lot (across from the mighty QT store next to the Jenks Bridge) and I run north, but now I noticed the trail is closed at the I-44 freeway. That cuts down my mileage. I run the Creek-TurnPike trail to make up for the mileage difference. The reason why I questioned it is because other cities build trails much faster. Omaha replaced 7 miles of trail around Lake Zweniski in a few weeks. I figured the new trail in Tulsa would be all done and full of runners~ Anyhoo, Thanks for info gang, I thought the project was going to be a quick one. I hope the new trail will look great when done.

So 9-10 miles roundtrip isn't enoguh for you to run? How bout going west when you get to 71st and run turkey mountain... if 9-10 miles isn't enough turkey mountain will be a great run. Also, isn't the west side of the trails connected to turkey mountain now?

I also do not like that "Smart Car" running up & down the trails. Motor vehicles should not be on the trails at all. The weight of the car could also damage the pavement. The trails are designed for bikes and joggers and not 2,000 pound cars. The areas that need to be patroled the most are the parking lots....Another point what if the driver gets distracted for a second, or is answering a radio call, there is alot of kids darting around, pets, and things like that. They should not put anything bigger than a golf cart on the trails.[B)]

That was quick ,I wonder if they had already bought it before the council approved it just a few weeks ago?????

Yep, west side is done from the crap plant to Turkey Mountain.

Sauer, next time you are in town, drive up to the Turkey Mountain parking lot and go running in any direction from there, you will get some challenging hills coming back to your car.

Oh, and make sure you back into your parking spot, sit and listen to the radio for 15 minutes or so before you go run.  I hear it's a great way for out of towners to make new friends in Tulsa.

The path will eventually be marked, designating a lane for wheels and a lane for feet...but you are right, No one knows where to walk/ride right now.
