Hey, if you lived in Columbus in February you'd probably be dreaming of living somewhere else too.

I've been there in about every month of the year and glad I live here. People think our river smells funny.

So do you hang out on the ColubusNow forum and post on food prices, trails, and restaurant locations you only know of via Google or Google Earth?

I dunno why everyone jumps on me. I only said they build trails slow in Tulsa as compaired to other cities, and other cities have to do the the same things as does Tulsa when they build the trails. It takes Tulsa longer to rebuild the trail than it takes to build a highway. The city of Omama built a whole system of trails in a few short years and they are expanding the trail network all the time and there is a plan to build a 50-mile trail from Omama to Lincoln, Nebraska. Anyhow, once the new trail is done in Tulsa it should look pretty darn good. Tulsa Rockz![:)]

I have seen them build trails very fast here. But these new improved trails are not your average trails. They had to rip up the old ones, redesign and reconfigure the landscape in many areas (that alone made things look sooo much better), lay in electrical for the lighting (looks to be very nice lighting btw), many areas have beautiful new stone retaining and terracing walls, new plantings, creeks were redone, nice new bridges, drinking water fountains, fantastic new park space with dozens of fountains, new  restrooms, etc. etc. The quality finish, of the actual trails themselves, (lets not forget that its also in most areas, double trails) is very sharp looking.

I loved that we had the river parks and the trails, but sometimes I would drive by and they would just look so ratty. This is making a world of difference not just to the trails but its redoing and improving most of the park space itself in those areas as well. This is a fantastic start to having a top-notch, showcase for the city.

Thank you Mr Kaiser and QT!

Cant wait to see the next phase. I am so greedy lol. [:P]

Because when you post about things in Tulsa while you live in o-freaking-hio it appears you are speaking out of your butt.

Other cities can build jogging trails real fast, I just don't see why Tulsa is so slow. I agree the workers should not park their old heaps on the fresh pavement. My favorite section is to run from the far south parking areas (101st street) up to the I-44 Bridge and back, parts of the old trail were in very bad shape. I like the section that runs near the river (where the trail curves in from RiverSide Drive)- that reminds me a bit of the Fort Worth  Trinity Trail. I hate the casino section where the trail crosses the driveway, the last thing I want to do is worry about motor traffic going in & out when I'm doing a timed run. I like the trails that have no traffic crosings best. My e-mail box is full of the up-coming 2009 races and running events.[8D]

Likewise. Tulsa Runner and Runner's World sends me at least 2-3 emails a week it seems like. When I'm in marathon training mode, I usually start from 41st and Riverside and run to the Williams building, through Cherry Street to St. John, through Woodward Park, through the portion of the trail that cuts through the neighborhood which takes you to the top level of the pedestrian bridge, and then back again to 41st. If you enjoy varied elevation and a nice little 12-13 mile tour of Tulsa, this is a great path.

It will be nice to finally have a decent, well-lit trail too...cuz doing long runs that push into the night at the River Parks can be pretty scary without some decent lighting.

If your idea of well-lit means lighting of a reasonable intensity so that the brightness of the trail doesnt prevent you from seeing into the shadows, im with you.

As a trail user, are you able to see better into the shadows now than before, or could the lighting be softened a bit more so that your eyes dont have to make big adjustments between light and dark areas?

I'm in Tulsa more than you think. I'll be in Tulsa the 1st week of March. I have ran on the RiverSide Trail many times when I'm in "T" Towne. I run the Creek TrunPike Trail sometimes. I'm a Customer Service Rep. I travel alot for a living.

Yep, I get alot of e-mails from Runner's World mag, and Fitness-USA or whatever that race company's name is here. I guess I'm just a old fashioned runner, I hate hills and yes  I know it's good to train on them, but I just love to run on flat open trails, upgrades and hills make me cuss. Sometimes before a race I'll do some speed work and finish with some quick hill work, but most times I'll just do the speed work and skip the hill work. Omaha's Wherspann Lake 6-mile loop trail has  two mean upgrades. Tulsa's RiverSide Trail is nice & Flat as is the Trinity Trail in Texas, and the Olentangy trail in Ohio.[8D][:)]

I'm able to see better period. I love the new lighting system. It's not so bright that it blinds you, but not so little that you can barely see. I'll say that it's a hell of a lot better than those dim orange lights they had before that seemed to be placed every half mile of each other. Before, I got scared every time I wasn't around a light. But now, the lights are spaced out perfectly that it blends into the next so that there are no dark spots. I just wish they would work all the kinks out, because I have noticed that EVERY time I run, there are at least 2-3 lights on the new portion of the trail that are not working...and they usually aren't the same ones each time. It seems to skip around to different lights at times and the ones that weren't on the day before are suddenly on the next day...

Most jogging trails don't have any lighting systems, Tulsa's trail lighting is a big bonus, I bet it's darn expensive to install all the lights and the electric bills.[B)]

Then quit acting like you know about current-day Tulsa from first-hand experience.  You live in Ohio.  It should be mandatory that your sig read something like "I'm not really a Tulsan, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night".

This forum has many out-of-state posters, and that's a good thing. It brings in all sorts of view points and it shows that Tulsa draws in people from all over the country. I'm a hardcore running nut so jogging trails are a big intrest to me. The RiverSide jogging trail is a great place to run~ In March the spring racing season starts from short 5K runs to a 26.2 mile run. There is a 10 mile Easter race coming up that I need to train for and since I'll be in Tulsa soon I can do some timed runs on the RiverSide Trail while I'm in town...[:)] [}:)]

'kraut...bookmark this site...

www.okrunner.com

It has the upcoming schedule. There's a 5K every weekend in March. The St. Patricks Day run had almost 1200 runners last year. And the K9K run on the 21st offers a 5K or a 9K. Don't know for sure...but you can usually sign up the day of the race. Might cost you a few extra bucks though.

sauerkraut

OK thanks for the info. I know same-day sign up costs more, but it works better for me. I do my best running when it's warm and March does not have too many warm days, if it's cold or raining on race day I can stay home and not lose my money. That is worth an extra $5.00 or so for me when I sign up on race day. Tulsa is one heck of a fine runner's city. I wish our city had races every weekend.[:)]
