If parking sucks at 45th or 21st, I highly recommend the parking lot at Turkey Mountain.  Lots of off-the-path natural trails for you to try...

That won't work for me since I don't run on streets & roads, I did that before and had many close calls with cars and had all sorts of things thrown at me, cars & runners don't mix. I'm only a trail runner now where you don't have to worry about motor traffic. Maybe Riveside parking will open up once the other parking lots re-open from all the const. work south of 54th..

Why would parking at 11th street and Riverside less than 10 feet from the trail not work?
What is wrong with 31st Street and taking the pedestrian bridge to the trail?

There are many parking options that will allow you to avoid being placed in harms way by motorists, without the need to add additional parking at 41st St to accomodate you.

I don't know how to keep people from throwing stuff at you..I run on city streets every day and that has never happened to me. Do you run like quasimodo or the elephant man or Phoebe?

HA, I'm betting Phoebe

to sauerkraut's credit there is a lot of dog **** along side the trails.

i know dog **** & i know goose **** and this is decidedly dog.

I've seen it right in the middle of the pedestrian bridge on several occasions, and brother, that wasn't from the waterfowl.

What kind of inconsiderate a-hole lets their dog **** right in the middle of a path.

Oh yeah...I guess I forgot where we live...with an exception here & there.

Heh heh.

Or park in the BIG parking lot at 31st...and use the bridge to get to the trail.

I don't want more parking lots...especially at 41st.

I have to agree. There is no reason to pave over more park for cars. It is real easy to park nearby and jog a block or so. The westbank parking lots near the Rowing Club, the Skate Park and PSO soccer fields are near empty all the time. And I'm not seeing much dog poo north of 31st, mostly goose stuff. Sick geese. It's those Brooksiders and their dogs south of 31st I guess.

But Carlton, it is not uncommon to have redneck hicks in trucks slow down and yell, whistle or throw stuff at runners and walkers. Hasn't happened to me lately but occassionally someone very jealous of my obvious runners physique  ;) has given me a few taunts. I ducked a beer can once and politely acknowledged some rather drunk (vision impaired) females who whistled and yelled at me. It happens.

Oh, yeah, this evening an obviously messed up guy was yelling and screaming at people around the old Rivers Edge cafe. I see it as "walking graffiti".

I've never had anything thrown at me but I've got a few taunts and yells...especially from cars waiting for the stoplight at Riverside/I44. I'll just wave it off...or invite them to finish my run with me. Haven't had a taker yet.

Taunts from cars are a real problem for runners (and I guess cyclists have problems with cars too) and for a cute female runner traffic taunts can be worse, I have had beer cans chucked at me  when I ran on the streets, I had cars come up slow behind me and honk the horn & yell and things like that. This was on Collins Road & Sanford Road in Arlington, Texas in the early 1980's...  I did not  want to drive the 15 miles down to the Fort Worth Trinity  Bike Trail just to run a few miles and fight the rush hour traffic on I-30. I gave up street running it's not worth it plus you breath in car fumes, We had runners struck by hit & run drivers. I stay on the trails where it's safe.

Heh heh heh, Your right, It is a big lot with lots of parking room, however,  many cars have been broken into there, you can see broken car window glass on the pavement. On my last run I parked at the lot on 21st & Riverside. There was room. Normally I like to park on the south end of the trail but with all that construction going on there,  I have been running on the north end. :-\

Your correct, There is also alot of waterfoul dung in certain areas of the trail, but that's not as bad as the dog poo.. I'm strongly in favor of banning dogs from the trail totally, What's wrong with using the dog parks the city built? That's what they are for. The trail is for people to use and not have worry about dog dung all over. It's pretty darn bad, there is dog dung every few feet in the grass along the trail. I seen dog owners stand & watch as the dog dumps a load in the grass and they just walk away without cleaning it up. A few careless dog owners can spoil it for everyone. The dogs can ruin the whole grassy area of the Riverside parks where kids play and people toss frisbees.

Almost everyone has a cameraphone these days. I've often thought we should setup a website where people can send cameraphone pics of people committing certain minor offenses for public haranguing.

Once, I had a motorcycle offer to race bikes with me. It was probably the funniest and friendliest taunt that I'd received.

That tragic accident in SandSprings where two cyclists got killed by a SUV and a 3rd cyclist is in the hospital says it all, motor traffic and bikes/joggers don't mix. That was a very horrific crash. That's why I stick to trail running only. BTW I ran from north 45th street to 15th street Tuesday afternoon on the Riverside Trail and I have to admit the new Riverside Park really looks great, all those frills, whistles & bells paid off. The two river cross over trails are are nifty. They did a great job. If I designed it I'd have just rebuilt the trail and make it wider, tossed in a few park benchs and drinking fountains and called it done. Tulsa has alot to be proud of. Most other trails I run are bland nothing but 10' wide pavement with a yellow line down the center.
