Looks like Avis is wanting to put a bid down for Dollar Thrifty:

I have a sneaking suspicion that they don't actually want DTAG, but just want to drive up the price Hertz pays. Avis already has a downmarket brand.

My thoughts exactly.  There is a clause in the contract between Hertz and DTAG that says if either pulls out of the deal, they would have to pay the other one I believe somewhere in the neighborhood of 44million and there was another % of something in there as well that would be owed.  Should be interesting none the less.
