Today (Thursday, October 16) at 7:00 in Chapman Lecture Hall on the campus of the University of Tulsa, Earth Matters and Sustainable Green Country are sponsoring a film on Transit-Oriented Development.

Sustainable Green Country and Earth Matters.

The movie will be shown in the Chapman lecture hall at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday
Oct. 16.

The movie will explore successful examples of transit oriented development and let us reflect on our own city's transit development.  Realizing the sprawling interstate-centric model our city has used is flawed is an
important step in creating a more sustainable and efficient transit system for the future.  This is an important issue for all residents of a city on the cusp of reforming its development plan to understand.

"Good design is good business, creating special places and yielding a higher return on investment than less thoughtful approaches.  This film encourages viewers to expect and insist upon excellence in the environments around future transit stops.  It addresses access to the transportation system, connections, context, density and growth, uses and activities, landscape, and beauty.  Through case studies, it identifies challenges and opportunities and makes recommendations useful in the discussion of site-specific projects.

Transit-oriented development (TOD) can enrich active lifestyles, serve the elderly and disabled, increase property values, and bring vibrancy to communities.  It improves transportation choices, and opens new options for where to locate commerce and housing.  By encouraging less dependence on private automobile use, TOD can help improve air quality and public health.  It can support safe, attractive, economically viable, and environmentally sustainable communities.  It is an antidote to sprawl."

I'll be there for sure, and thought you kind people would like to know.
