Eating out on Thanksgiving

My wife and I are planning on taking my parents out for Thanksgiving dinner. This is becoming a tradition since none of us want to prepare a large spread for just four people each year. In 06' we went to the Doubletree at Warren Place. It was ok. Last year we went to Cafe Savannah's at Forest Ridge. It was better than the Doubletree.
    Would like to try somewhere new. Does anybody have any suggestions? Good experiences? Just looking for some really good food with pleasant surroundings.

This is my sad Thanksgiving dinner story...

Long before I married my good wife (the current), I was in a short marriage that ended in September. I was OK and was really liking being single and doing whatever I wanted. On Thanksgiving, the county used to let people play their golf courses for free and I looked forward to a Thanksgiving morning of golf and an afternoon of watching football on TV.

After my golf, I stopped by the grocery store on Brookside and ran in to buy some sliced turkey, some cheese and bread, and a pie to eat during the two or three ball games.

There was a channel 2 TV crew in the store doing a puff piece about what people are buying last minute for Thanksgiving and they zoomed in on my face and my pathetic little basket of groceries. I had added some turkey hot dogs (since they were on sale) right on top of the basket.

I didn't think anything about it until later that night when the story ran. My phone starts ringing off the hook from friends who thought I was pitiful enough to invite over for leftovers the rest of the week.

It was great to realize so many people cared about me, but I was embarassed that what I thought was a great Thanksgiving day was in reality, so sad.

This year I decided to let the Wife have the Day off and ordered a Turkey dinner from our local Reasors. $49.00 get's you smoked Turkey and stuffing,mashed patatoes and gravy,cranberry sauce and a pumpkin pie. Feeds 10 to 12 people. This is the first time that I have done this but people I know that have done this before say's that it is great.

About 4 years ago, I was in Palma de Mallorca, Spain for Thanksgiving with a few other American friends. We walked nearly the entire island and couldn't find ANY turkey. I think I ended up eating a ham-and-cheese sandwich with some french fries as my "Thanksgiving meal". []

I usually eat at Jamils steak house on Thanksgiving and on Christmas.  They are always open during the holidays.  

Try the Golden Saddle on Admiral between Memorial and Sheridan for Baked Turkey meals.  Mo, the owner has some gormet entres' that are smoking.  They have Turkey, Dressing, Mashed potatoes on the menue daily for $2.99.   Freeway Cafe at 4th and Sheridan has Turkey, Dressing, Mashed potatoes for $1.99 every day.

Lambrusco'z does Thanksgiving dinners to go. Easy to pick up on Wednesday, heat and serve on Thursday.

For all you turkey fryers out there...I now collect cooking oil at our recycling centers seven days a week.

I am going to do a promotion at our east Tulsa location the Saturday after Thanksgiving where the collected oil will be made locally into bio-desiel fuel.

The first 500 people who attend between 10 and  2 will get a free grease trapper kit for their kitchen.

We did Petty's last year and were thrilled with it!  Very good.
