There is a difference between paying for local/quality and just plain getting ripped off.

I REALLY hope that the six packs, when they make the liquor stores, are the same price (or close to it) as other high quality brews.  I might pay a dollar more for a Marshall's six pack than say, a six pack of Sierra Nevada or Guinness, but no more than that.

Served at an eating establishment always costs more than take-out from the liquor store. $4 to $5 per pint is about normal for quality craft beer in pubs etc.  That's one reason I limit my trips to pubs; I can't afford to go often.

edit: I got my reply on the wrong side of the quote control

Your reply makes my case!

Assuming you mean a 16 ounce pint, a $4 pint is 25 cents an ounce.  At 25 cents an ounce that would equal $5.5 for a 22 ouncer.

At $5 a pint that is 31.25 cents an ounce.  That would equal $6.875 for a 22 ouncer.

I suppose paying $8 is only a rip off to those who think that is too much.  I happen to be one of those people that thinks that $8 is too much.

Couple of thoughts on what has turned into a price discussion:

Marshall Brewing Co. does not set prices to the consumer. Under the three-tier distribution system in the State of Oklahoma, beer passes from producer to distributor to retail.

Hideaway Pizza is a fantastic local success. Their choosing to offer Marshall beer is a match made in heaven. Local pizza and beer! I think they would prefer 12 oz bottles, but they are simply not available at present.

My understanding is that six packs of 12 oz. bottles will be in line with pricing of other craft breweries such as Full Sail, Rogue, and Left Hand.

Wine is always considerably more expensive in restaurants than liquor stores.

Finally, with craft beer you are paying for a unique experience. What is the most money you could pay for a bottle of wine at a restaurant? In most cases hundreds of dollars. I for one, have no problem paying $8 a bottle of high quality craft beer enjoyed with some of the the best pizza in the region and both Oklahoma's own. Ounce for ounce for high quality beer provides me a much cheaper experience than high quality wine. Support our local economy.

Oh how I loath the 3 tier distribution system.  It doesn't help the Oklahoma producer or the Oklahoma consumer at all.  It helps the retailer somewhat I suppose (ease of doing business, only a few choices of who to buy from).  Most of all, it helps the legally mandated 3rd set of hands - the distributor.  It guarantees a margin on every bottle sold whether a distributor is needed or not.

What does that add do you think?  10-20% to all alcohol sold in Oklahoma?

Throw in the BS "non intoxicating beverage" and other blue laws.  Argh.  Really, have any of these laws ever done the consumer or the public any good at all?

If I'm in the mood for a craft brew, price is the last thing on my mind.

I think people forget they are paying for basic service and atmosphere when they order alchol out rather than drinking at home.  Hideaway has a lot higher overhead than I've got at my house.

I was there last night. They didn't have any Sundown Wheat. I was sad. :p

$8 for a 22oz of good beer is a steal compared to $6 for a 12oz of piss there.

Anyone know if the beer is available in liquor stores in Sapulpa?

I am working on posting a master list of liquor stores that carry Marshall soon. Any updates will be welcomed. Also, remember that Marshall Brewing Co beers are available to all liquor stores in NE Oklahoma through distributors. If you favorite store is not carrying the beer request that they do!

$172 for 13.3 Gallon ("1/2 barrel") is what I paid.  Add in tax and keg deposit (if applicable, I always have one to swap out) and you had better figure on $200.   But the base price makes it around 11 cents an ounce.  Showing what a significant expense bottling can be to a small brewery. . .

Ranch Acres also has 1/6 barrels for sale for ~$75 which is similar in size to a cornelious (soda) keg.

On a somewhat similar if not opposite point - Choc has started a DRINK LOCAL marketing campaign that is pretty cool.  I bought a couple of their new "signature beers" yesterday (hold on there Eric, I bought 13 gallons of Marshall's and 66 Oz of Choc, I'm ok).  They also had stickers, which will be on my keg fridge.  Hoping for a Marshall sticker and/or tapper in the near future.  [:P]
