Not sure if this counts as an "event" but thought it would be good to post on this forum. For the past year or so we have been participating in a program called Food Share America, it is program that provides food at reduced prices, with benefits going back to the community. It started in Colorado where I grew up, and my Mom would participate. The food is name-brand or name store brand, the produce is in season, and is quality stuff. Last month the Turkey dinner package was $37.00, this month the Ham dinner is $27.00. They also take food and donate it back to the community. The host sites are non-profit places like churches or comminuty centers. I have been picking up mine in Sapulpa, it is through the Community Care center and the pick up site is at The Show, a recyclying center that employs the disabled. The only other Tulsa-area site is Skiatook, I am sure if people in Tulsa were interested through their church or organization they could become a host site for Tulsa. I have met people from Jenks, Sand Springs, Bristow, Kiefer, Tulsa and Sapulpa there. The next pickup date is December 20th at 7 AM, how it works is that everyone that orders a Share helps unload the truck and then divide up each share. Many people that participate are elderly or disabled, so they always appreciate any volunteers. The orders are due December 12th, I always order online the website is http://www.sharecolorado.com/
That has all the information about the program, menus, etc. Or you can call Mary at Community Care at 224-6464, she can give you more information.
